Someone last week, I think Kelly, was talking about large army of pesants. Well
I found 2 candidates that might make excellent armies. Early Saxon gets 32E of
IrrE LMI 1/2 JLS, 1/2 EPW. The main line troops are obviously Irrg close order
barbarian types, but the thought of a layer of trash armor forced marched to the
center and single element depth units of 3 or 4 E each would make an excellent
novelty army.
The other army is much more competitive: Breton. Here you get a ton of
excellent mounted HC and LC with some choice ally options like Viking and
Franks. Also available are 36E of IrrE LMI IPW. This army is far more serious
a contender and could possibly be a tournament winner since with that much cheap
trash the enemy would have to expend quite a few FP charging and shooting his
way through them.
36E/6= 6E each. 6x1.5+25=34pt each.
Best part as we all know.....no one cares if they all die :)

I wonder if this might be a problem if it comes to be exploited as a
tactic. I know some of the Mongol-type armies drove peasants in front
of the army to break-up and intimidate the enemy, but would the
Saxons or Bretons really have pushed their least willing and capable
troops (old, lame, children, etc) to the front of the battle?
It seems to me that there were two different kinds of Irr E troops.
The ones that the Mongols drove were captured peoples or slaves that
they truly did not care about seeing killed. The rest are the less
willing or able troops or your own tribe/nation. It seems that force
marching them forward to be slaughtered does not comport with either
a knightly or warrior ethic.
If my historical assumptions are incorrect, I apologize for the
wasted bandwidth. I don't profess to be an expert.

>No they wouldn't and there is nothing in the historical record to suggest that
they did. And WARRIOR is fairly adroitly setup to prevent this in that Irr E
troops pay command points, therefore, they are units and with a 50%
demoralization level, ain't gonna be too many players tossing the old, lame,
etc., into harms way.

>And since we haven't gotten to Mongols yet, your characterization of Irr E
troops as published is absolutely correct. I'm guessing that Mongol Irr E
troops will get treated differently as you indicate (the Mongols don't care
about what happens to them) they should be. Now how that comes out as a list
rule, I only have some scattered thoughts best not to share right now in case
they come back to haunt me later:) Rest assured, Mongol "hostages" will be
treated in such a way as to reflect their very occasional historical usage.
>Good question.

John,
Originally, my post was about a biblical list no longer supported(Anatolian
Hill Tribes or something like that) by FHE to the best of my knowledge. It could
have up to 500 elements of Irg E LMI JLS, Sh!!!! I believe if your gonna bring
barbarian trash to the table it needs to be these guys! I think that this list
allows you to get somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 units of 12 elements each
or so! Somewhere around 350 figures! I would love to have such an army to play
for the pure novelty! :)
Kelly
PS When everyone is Irg E it's okay to force march. In fact, I think the tactic
of Student body forward would rule(with a proper gap between lines of course
allowing for reserves which are legion!

Wow! That would be a sight to see. I'd love to see it on the table --
one I'm not on, of course. What would be the other extreme for small
army opposition? Some SHK outfit?
Sorry not to keep up on the thread from the beginning.

Amen to that. I think you might have to force march just to put
everyone on the table at deployment.
