At Silver Eagle this past weekend we had 4 players show up for a fun time.
The players were Tim Brown, Pete Cellela, Jacob Kovel and Ewan McNay. Pete,
being a relative newcomer and playing at 1600 points for the first time, was
treated to the opportunity to play first Tim and then Ewan. Both spent a
considerable amount of time working with him on tactics and theories. He had a
wonderful learning experience and Tim and Ewan were both good teachers. On
the other side, Tim and Ewan both took their shots at me as well. And I must
say, those shots were quite effective. First, Ewan's Sassanid Persians
pounded on my Macedonians and then Tim's Neo-Assyrians repeated the process. My
only
complaint is that not one pikeman ever rolled combat dice. The peltasts did
an admirable job and kept me in the game against Tim. We are hoping to get
another round of gaming in on 10 July. Anybody interested should give me a
call or drop an e-mail.
Jacob

Jake,

I know you hate moving but. . . it has become evident to me that the center
of the Warrior Universe is now here in the Mid-West where Jon resides. Did you
say only 4 showed up? I'm getting in at least 1 game in a week and sometimes 2
or 3 at table top games with usually around 5-8(or more!) warrior players
present ! What a strange turn of events. I know it is because of the personal
charisma of JC and the fact that the engine was excellent to begin with coupled
with rules innovation and attention. How else would we have such a following
here? I know I have sometimes been critical of Jon over the internet and have
been known to have taken things he has said over this forum negatively but I'd
also like to mention to everyone here just for saying it that the internet for
all it's good uses is sometimes "The Devil!" (As Bobby Bushay's momma would say,
lol!) Unlike normal conversation when you can see a person's expression and read
their true intent. Anyway back to the point, I plan
to import Mike Lewis another long time Warrior gamer from FLA. to this area to
add to our swelling ranks. Since all of my other friends are coming "home", I
thought I might plant this little seed in the back of your mind and try to
entice you to return to the land of lot's of open space (very less expensive
property) and much less expensive living (not to mention the center of Warrior
Gaming!). Tell Shari and the kids hi!

I told Pete this, but will now embarass him in public: for a novice, his
grasp of rules was *great*. Which made the teaching and learning a lot
more fun - we could skip things like constant reminders of turn sequence
and most mechanics. Being handed Early Polish against first camels and
then elephants was not exactly an easy intro!

Out of town, Jacob, I'm afraid.

Jake:

I had a great time last time, and would love to come again. I leave
for a vacation on July 12, but I got permission from my better half
to play on the 10th, assuming I take care of all the packing for the
kids ahead of time. Let me know the specifics, and I'll be there. I
hope to give my opponents a more interesting match this time.

Hope to see you then.

Peter

Ewan - Nah, I don't embarass that easily. Given that those were my
first 1600 point games, I was happy to hang in as long as I did. I
was especially appreciative of how accomodating players of yours,
Tim's, and Jake's level are to take the time to instruct a newcomer
(and in the most friendly way). It was lots of fun.

I might mention to any lurkers out there, who haven't yet got up the
gumption to approach any active players, what are you waiting for? If
you're just reading the rules and silently following this egroup
(like I did for 8 months), I'd suggest going out and find the nearest
players to you and see if you can't get some games in. If Jake, Tim,
and Ewan are representative, then most Warrior players will be happy
to have you join in.
