Sacred standards can be very effective with armies that need impetuousity and
otherwise have a tough time getting it.

First, just take it as given that your shock troops are going to be facing one
cause of unease when you need them most. With me it typically seems to be enemy
elephants in the vicinity. Regardless, plan for the worst case scenario and
you'll never be surprised.

Two armies I look at a lot that can benefit from the sacred standard are Feudal
French and Medieval French. The key troop type here is the Brigans: HI or LHI,
armed with 2HCW or 2HCT, and backed by JLS. These guys can beat pikemen and
elephants at contact -- the very things the knights have trouble with -- but
with a morale of Irr C they need some help going impetuous.

Yes, the sacred standard is expensive, but if you're dealing with a large number
of C class troops in the army, it can be points well spent.

Mark and others are obviously correct. My problem is that at 1200pt
games you essentially give up one unit from 11-13 total units to have
it. I think it is another consideration such as terrain or army
composition. The entire plan depends upon it's application. For
Byzantines, for example you get most of your shock troops as B or A,
so they need less help. Where you need people to be steady when
otherwise predisposed to not be so...that is where it pays off.

Personal experience for me is that as my CNC routs and the banner
falls I have to take twice the number of waver tests. Of course, not
everyone sends in the CNC like I do.
