I hope that there is no real consideration of changing table scales for 15's.
I know that the rules don't delineate playing area dimensions as a mandate,
but most of what we do here in Texas at least is cloaked as a rehearsal for
Historicon and NICT's.
That which takes place in Pa, ripples back to all clubs to some degree or
another. I hope that those things that don't need fixin' are left alone.

I agree, Chris. I, as a lowly NASAMW member, would also 'vote' to keep table
sizes in the big tourneys just as they are. I am in complete agreement with
Scott's philosophy that having the two slightly different games (25mm on 8x5
and 15mm on 6x4) is a good thing.
I would, however, like to see some other formats played in addition to the
major events, and we will recommend some in the rulebook.

Historicon and NICT's.
Since the NICT in 7th is only played in 25mm, the best preparation for the
NICT's would be either by playing 25mm or a game that was like 25mm. If one
only has 15mm figs, a 3x5 battlefield better simulates a 25mm battle than a
6x4. What I'm trying to say is that playing on a reduced 15mm board size
will not adversely effect one's preparation for playing in the NICT. But, as
you will see below, my concern is more geared towards what happens at the
major conventions than how those who take the time to run local tournaments
choose to structure their tournament.
That which takes place in Pa, ripples back to all clubs to some degree or
another. I hope that those things that don't need fixin' are left alone.
Although I can't say that something is "broken" with playing 15mm battle on a
6x4 board, I can say that I think a smaller board better lends itself to 3-4
hour convention battles. Despite the fact that there has been much
discussion on this board about how people left 7th because the rules were not
clearly written, there has been less mention of other reasons why people
left. I would say that, starting in about 93-94, several 15mm players left
because of the lack of determinative battles. No matter how hard they tried
to engage the enemy, an opponent who considered a draw a victory could
relatively easily obtain that result. The "new" point system adopted by
S.Holder slowed, but did not end that trend--one that did not exist for those
playing 25mm. I think that this difference in scales accounts to some extent
for why such a large percentage of the die hard 7th crowd are historically
25mm players.

How many votes does a mere foot soldier get (as opposed to one of the
horsemen)?:)
Well, this may just be a difference of opinion, but as mentioned in my last
post, I don't think 25mm and 15mm are "slightly" different--I believe they
are very different. I have been most fortunate in that for the past 15 years
I have had unfettered access to Danny Weitz's 25mm collection (his basement
is the undisptued Mecca for figs in the Northeast).
I also understand, however, that there are those who do not have regular
access to 25mm lead. We've even seen people having trouble finding a 25mm
army once a year to play in the NICT. The point is that for many 25mm is not
a realistic choice, leaving them to play 15mm or not to play 7th/Warrior. I
have seem several people in this position leave 7th for reasons that could be
addressed by using a smaller board. This, IMHO, would be a less drastic
change that the demorialization rule from 2/3 to 1/2 of a general's command
(not that both can't be instituted). Since it has already been mentioned
that the 6x4 board was instituted both as a carryover from 6th and a function
of the tables offered by Lancaster Host, why not give a smaller 15mm board a
try?

As I recall, the move to having 25mm-only competition was to combine two
shrinkning pools of players - right? Now, as Warrior will of course
produce teeming masses of new blood, we can surely return to the two-scale
system, no? :)
>No Until the teeming masses show up, the NICT will remain 25mm only.
Quit your whining and go get some lead finally:):)

Which reminds me - where are other folk in the area? Anyone up for a
practice game or two before H'con?

That would be me. Without the kindness of others (including Danny), I
could not play 25mm; it *is* still a problem finding a 25mm army once each
year, and - because that's the only time that I do - I'm sure that it's a
negative on skill, maybe on enjoyment also.

[I actually prefer the 15mm game, I think; Dave's point on the need to be
able to force a fight is valid, but it is doable - even against Mongols
and such.]

I'm up for a game this Sunday. Are you in the area?
I'm in Manhattan. You are welcome to come in (space is limited). If you
have access to a good space, I'd travel. Are you near a train station?

I am in the area, but time is short. Where are you 'D'? I live near
Pottstown, Montgomery County.
