Sigh, well I guess something had to be missed. In point of fact yes, it
seems that the trapezetoi operated more as scouts, irregular raiders and
trackers than as battle line skirmishers. That job belonged to mercenaries
and the prokoursatores and hyperkerastai. However, given the descriptions in
the manuals there is nothing unhistorical about some Byzantine HC having
javelins, instead of bows. We just don't allow for it in the list as it
doesn't seem to have been a common practice. I didn't see any need for
trapezetoi in the list (which as Scott if fond of reminding me has enought
troop categories.) They seemed like a reasonable one to leave out. I'm not
hard over on it though. I'm sure they participated in some battles at one
time or another. If Scott wants to errata them back in, I wouldn't mind.

I probably won't since this was gone over during the drafting stage.

Paul and Scott,

Hmm... So, what do those of us with this figure type use them for?
These are very expensive lead fishing weights! HC L,jls,sh? It's too
bad that those of us with existing armies have to discard figures but
if that's how your research bears out then to bad for anyone who owns
a Byzantine army prior to Holy Warrior. So be it. I'm hardcore when
it comes to Warrior and will take this no further. Thanks for your
responses!

Kelly
