No. 9.22: "A second rank of foot armed with JLS and behind a front rank
of
foot, cavalry or chariots, fights at half effect at first contact. "
After
that, the 2HCT would keep them from using the JLS, but not at first
contact.
But: 2.32: "The JLS category... cannot be combined with P, L, or 2HCT."
Seemed pretty categorical to me.

Right, and P has to be close order and regular and 2HCW fights only one rank and
mounted JLS fights only one rank and there is no 1HCW, etc, etc.
Army lists overrule core rules, which I know you know, so not sure why this
reference would come up.

The reference came up when Holder described the Aztec
Ireg A units as having 2HCT,Jls,Sh in the front rank.

Yes, I know. But having 2HCT does not prevent the use of JLS at first contact.
Ewan's reference was to the rule that you can't 'on your own' assign both to a
single troop. Has to be in a list. That rule does not say that having 2HCT
prevents JLS eligibility in hth.

This is getting me a little upset.
What the hell does "JLS: The JLS category is used in close combat only in
combination with infantry LTS, HTW, or 2HCW, or with foot or mounted SA. It
cannot be combined with P, L, or 2HCT." actually mean? Can't carry
together, can't fight together, what? "Combined" used to be a pretty
specific term, now its being made very vague and open to interpretation.
Why not just say "JLS: can be used as army lists dictate."

I'm sorry there is confusion over the fact that list rules beat core rules, but
I also can't see where that confusion could possibly come from. Even 7th was
that way.... ;)
> Why not just say "JLS: can be used as army lists dictate.">>
Because we have to account for the player who wants to make his own army list
from scratch.
Upset huh? Try wondering why on earth people are suddenly surprised that list
rules beat core rules and having to spend time reminding them....lol
