Good concept, Don!

Defining a unit's footprint should help no end for all those tricky
rout/evade/squeeze-a-charge-into-a-gap kind of questions. (Seriously)


But it seems that this area is in a bit of flux. So, when the dust
settles, I would like this question answered by you, Jon Cleaves:

An irregular LC unit of 8 elements is in 3 (legal) ranks - 3/3/2
formation. Responding to an angled charge, the LC (sensibly) evade.

An example (in the published rules) as to how this awkward evade move
is handled would be most instructive...

Clue: Up until now, we(*) did it by:
1) turning each LC element 180 degrees
2) measuring and moving the rear rank the evade distance
3) moving the other 2 ranks without breaking formation
4) discovering that the LC is now in a 2/3/3 (=illegal?) formation

- and it is here the solid waste hits the gaseous comforter, because
we either:

4a) righteously declared that: as we are allowed to turn the rallying
unit 180 deg during Approaches to face enemy - we will! And when this
occurs, the LC formation reverts to 3/3/2 (which is most legal!) so
no formation problems, so leave me alone;

OR:

4b) we (equally righteously) declare that, as per 5.4 RALLYING:

"Rallying is the collection and/or reorganizing of temporarily
disordered or dispersed troops around the officers and standards
facing the enemy."

so, as we do not intend to turn 180 degrees, we may righteously END
in the correct 3/3/2 formation by shuffling elements as needed (this
shuffling being part of the rallying), so leave me alone!



Sorry, Jon, but whatever schema you adopt, you will have to specify
the results for uneven-ranked irregulars. Please give examples.

PS: the final resting place of the LC elements was important, not
only for determinig contact this bound, but for prep shooting and
charging next bound....


Once again, Don, good concept! Looking at all the work you've done,
you deserve to leave a footprint on Warrior rules!

*we = my wargamer friends in Sydney:

Jon, Scott, and anyone else out there: I live in Sydney, Australia,
and neither myself nor anyone I know has known of WRG 7.6 rules. (I
have 100 Yrs War English and never knew LB short range was increased
to 120 paces - I should stop D&D FRP!)

7.5 is the latest in print rules my circle knows of (many ongoing
harassments) - have you guys sorted out distribution in Oz? If not,
hit me with your requirements - at worst I'll convert to DBA!

PPS:

shite!!

I just realised (obviously I'm in my Ancient Briton mode) that
similar issues apply for a 3/3/2 formation wanting to turn 180
degrees!

Help Jon!! Make it clear in the rules!
