Jon,

Some questions came up this past weekend. If a light unit (which is always
allowed to evade) is charged in the flank while in column, how must it evade?
The rules say directly to its rear, or away from the charge. If we choose
the directly away from the charge, does the opposite flank of the chared
light unit then become its front (essentially a facing movement) and variable
move rolled from that point with the column lining up behind the end point?
At what point along the column does the unit turn, ie does the center of the
unit (that part most in line of the charge) become the head once the facing
movement has been made? Or do you simply make a facing movement at the head
or tail of the evading unit and then roll for distance? The latter option
would seem to provide extra distance to the evaders.

More to follow, but I won't overload you now.
Chris

This is my second question about evades when in column and charged in flank.
I'll work on these and post an answer after HCon, cause I don't 'get the
problem' enough to see it without looking at it in detail on my table and there
is no time for that until next week earliest.

I can tell you this though - my answer will include that you can't get extra
distance out of an evade due to formation changes (or anything else except a
complete legal interpenetration), etc. Ever.

That was our first concern as well. I will be at HCon and if time presents
itself can provide a on board demo.

Jon, this question was actually one that we spoke with Chris about before we
played this past Saturday. We had to get a consensus on resolution before
we started. He was not privy to our private posts, so he asked the question
here.

As I understand it, Chris will be at Historicon this year. Hopefully, he
can hook up with you to show you our situation. I sure wish I could make
it.
