The BEST thing about Warrior, is that you can actually recruit new players, and
they don't become totally turned off when they try to read and understand the
rules. We have a bunch of new guys here in San Antonio, and they are clearly
making very steady progress.
The lists are also very, very good ... and well worth the price (except for the
regular Varangians, ~wink~).
Jon, sometimes I feel like you are bothered when people bring up differing
point of views on various topics within this message board. I'm not sure you
really should be. We are obviously all playing and recruiting, and I know all
our new guys are sporting rules and list books, so it's all good.
Sometimes Warrior irks me, and at times I miss good old TOG-7. Those are just
feelings though, and looking back on the past with more admiration that it ever
deserved. The reality is, that in late TOG days, we had a hard time getting
three guys to show up to play twice a year, and with Warrior, we have a weekly
get together where we are now going to have to get more tables or start playing
on the floor.
That says it all!

Fellow Warriors
Always being a 'cup is half full' type...
-We have more members on this egroup than ever as of today. Thanks.
-Feudal Warrior is on track for Historicon.
-Things have quieted down enough in my world to allow me to
return 'full time' (meaning full non-work time) to Campaign Warrior
and Fantasy Warrior. I am looking forward to working with those
those interested in helping us with CamWar, especially those guys who
can help us write conversion rules for DB(x) and WAB so CamWar can be
used with those systems (and therefore lure in new Warrior
players...). In addition, FanWar playtest draft 3.0 will be out to
playtesters before HCon.
-All egroups go through 'rough spots'. Our most recent one has not
ended with players leaving the group - our group membership actually
increased throughout - and the most recent set of posts has been
superb. Again, thanks.
-Work has begun on Imperial Warrior. Go to the FHE website to see
what lists this encompasses and if you have any historical
information that leads you to certain conclusions about troop types
contained within, NOW is the time to talk to us about it.
Being in as many rules/games forums as I am, I must say it is a
pleasure working with you guys to make Warrior better. And no, I
don't mind answering your questions.

True. I am concerned about the impact on new players of some things that are
said here. I get a LOT of offline mail in reaction to posts about changing
things we said we would not at all (core rules) or would not without substantive
historical evidence (lists) and I am sensitive to what is said to me in those
mails. DBM turns people off because one new piece of pottery or doctoral
dissertation can invalidate an entire army and I just won't let it happen to
people who have invested the time and effort. I am also concerned about mails
that claim we have *changed* things. These refer, of course, to 7th and we have
said time and again that we consider Warrior a new game using a playtested core
engine. Experiences with 7th might just not be valid and any dissimilarities
are both my personal 'fault' and entirely intentional - no need to ask or wonder
about them in that regard.
All that said, I intend to do a better job of not 'reacting' unless I see
clearly that a new player is being discouraged by inaccurate or misleading
statements made here. My #1 priority is the new guy.

Can't beat that for good news. Thanks, Greg.

Still hoping to actually play enough to learn it...
And my Dixon 25mm Samurai are just about painted, but I dunno whether
to base them loose or close order...
And my next project is a huge pile of Partha Hellenistics, so I hope
you have that period whipped into shape so that the Hoplite LTS
troops can compete by the time I get them painted up.
