Hi All,

Couple repair questions.

I have a couple figures that have broken off at ankles and am looking for an
effective way to repair them. I've tried super glue, but it doesn't seem to
last.

I also have some chariots and am looking to shorten the harness poles so I
can fit them on a 40 x 40 base. I have a good place to cut, but am concerned
about how to join the two parts back together effectively. I don't want to have
them separating like the ankles on my javelinmen mentioned above. Any ideas?

Thanks,
John

John

The best glue for figures is Epoxy Resin. It is the type that comes in
two tubes and you have to mix. If this by its self does not work then add a
piece of wire to the repair.

I would try 5-minute epoxy. Need patience, but it will last -- that has been
my experience.

Hi,

Please excuse my ignorance. I understand the epoxy ideas, but what do you
mean by 'pinning?'

Thanks,
John

Thanks Chris,

Might be something in future, but sounds a little above my skill level at
this time.

Thanks. I've tried a Dremel, but the high RPMs are tough.

I would recommend pinning the figure/ model. I would do the same with the
chariot once you cut it down. if you pin both, two things are true, they
are actually stronger than in their molded configuration and two you won't
have the epoxy lump/ swelling so common when trying to use that form of
attachment. You can use whatever superglue you currently use.

Pinning is the process of drilling a hole in the two surfaces to be joined
and then inserting a small pin (typically brass wire) into the two holes.
Applying superglue then holds the pin and two surfaces in place. If you are
inclined to try this approach then let me know and I will write out a more
step by step method for you.

Hi John,

If it helps, you can get really small hobby drills called a Pin Vice at most
hobby or model railroad stores. The drill bits you buy for them are look
allot like pins, so that is where the name comes from I think. These aren't
power tools, you hold the pin vice in your hand and turn it with your
fingers. Lead/pewter figs are soft enough that a pin vice drill will go
through them easily. Chris is right, it is probably the best way to go. I've
been using a pin vice for modelling projects for years (since I was 12, for
sticking broken propellers back on my airplanes), it is probably the most
useful modelling tool I own.
They aren't expensive, the whole thing should cost less than 20 dollars.
It's allot just to fix one figure, but I've never run out of uses for the
thing.

Allan
