On this topic, I find six points very 'interesting':
1. Most troops pay to buy a bow or sling. The bow or slings aren't free. The
support (flavor) text only says that why they pay the extra point is that the
extra weapon requires extra training.
2. Elephants are specifically included, when I thought they were big bowling
balls. (PS-I've never played one).
3. That MC w/L,B,Sh can charge w/o prompting while LHI w/ 2HCT, S, Sh, can not
charge w/o prompting. (go horsies)
4. Darts which cost as much as slings, don't have the disadvantage of having to
be prompted. Some list even say 'extra to give D or S to ....'. Boy did the
S's
get the short stick.
5. Some lists allow paying to add 1 sling figure per element. That one slinger
keeps the rest of the troops from charging w/o prompting. Everyone must be
waiting on David to beat Goliath before charging.
6. This is the coolest point, it is now harder to charge out of skirmish
formation (Yeah Baby, skirmish in front of me next time, hope you have the
prompt
points).
I also would note that more than one list is effected. The Japanese just seems
to be the most outstanding because 'IRR B' by definition can be "unusually
rash"(2.13). Which is the way I picture the Japanese. I realize IRR A though
means fanatic.

Yes, I would say that I am sure Scott is going to show me that Samurai cav typically charged their opponents only after 'softening them up' with missiles....
So far, Scotty, no epiphany, just lots of lobster....

>Good good good. If I have time this week, I'll go thru my back issues of
Spearpoint and reread Mike's extensive article on the Japanese. If he were
around, he'd be the one doing the list. As it is, I'll hafta eventually use
his material and run it thru Jevon.
>Mike always felt that the Japanese were never adequately treated in WRG (akin
to the Swiss in that regard) so spent years working the data to outline an
approach to redoing the lists. Plus, everyone's gotta remember that in terms
of historical context, the Japanese fought....the Japanese so we don't have
much in terms of comparative military systems. I tend to discount the Yuan
invasions since the tactical context there wasn't exactly broad.
>Oriental Warrior is a 2003 project at the earliest. That's good if you want
to continue using the exceedingly bogus Tibetan EHK (although I might decide
not to allow them at any tourney I happen to umpire--you're free to do what
you want at home--come to think of it, most Tibetan players use SHC/EHC units)
but it's bad if you're looking for some minimal "relief" for the Japanese.
