Question for Jon:

I'm not certain I fully understand your answer (yes and yes) to Michael's
two follow-up questions (see below). I thought the unit must legally fit in
the space provided for the charge to occur. I know you despise questions
without first reviewing the rules and clarifications, so if you could point
out the section that allows a flank charge to occur that does not fit,
please help me. I've looked and can't locate the pertinent
section/statement. Thanks for the assistance.

To clarify...

If a charge starts BEHIND the flank of a target, then only 1 element must

"fit". The rest are just pivoted/lined up "as much as they can".

If a charges does NOT start behind the flank of a target, then the entire

body must "fit" after lining up, otherwise the charge is illegal.

Is this correct?

P.S. Yes, I know that a 12 element column of chariots is silly, and will

never be seen. It was just the most extreme example I could think of, and

that I choose intentionally, for the question.

Commander Data now accessing - don't trouble yourself, captain, i'm on it... ;)

6.165 (Pg 42) Flank Charges Subsection. Add after paragraph and before example:
"Flank Charges that start with the charger already behind the flank are not
required to fully conform and line up if other bodies or terrain prevent this
any more than frontal charges must in this case. The restrictions in this
section on the charger having to be able to fit pertain only to flank charges
that begin with the charger NOT behind the target's flank."

I have made a new resolution. I am no longer going to answer mails that start
with "I don't happen to have my rules handy, but.." lol
