That would be Dear Jon, as this is a rules question. It's ok, I get Dear Jon
letters all the time....

You can't do that. 14.42 says that you cannot be in ambush and be visible to
the centerline. If you are in a woods and within 40p of the centerline, you
are visible to it. That means these two forced marchers were 'illegally
placed' - but let us say they were each 41p from the center line and
therefore 82p from each other.

First of all, that would be ok.

When the first of them moves, shoots or is seen by the enemy, he is revealed
(14.42). If this is movement and he moves within 40p of the other guy, that
guy is revealed. Note there is no 'moving back to 240p' in this case as that
only happens at deployment and not later in the game (also 14.42).

Dear List,

In a game this weekend, we had a situation arise that we cannot not find
a good answer to. A woods terrain piece was placed across the centerline
of the table. In deployment, we both of forced marched into ambush
troops in the same woods. The facing really doesn't matter but we both
went to the centerline, effectively 1 mm away from each other in ambush
(unknown Truth). During the game, one of us started to move their troops
in ambush, first. Trying to work through the dilemma, all troops in
ambush were placed on the table and moved back separated by 240p.

How do you handle this type of hidden deployment problem?

1. They are in each others' face, 1mm away.
2. We forced marched incorrectly and should have been some distance
apart at initial placement. What is the distance?

Lost in the woods.

Invincibility is a matter of self-defense;
vulnerability is simply a matter of having gaps.
