So...what's wrong with cardboard counters and hex maps? I really
should bring out the unpainted Airfix Robin Hood figures mounted on the
boxes they came in ( print side up of course ) for the next con.

Actually that was Scott quoting me, and I did with Arifix figures just as you
say back when I was 13 :)
There is nothing wrong with it if your take on our hobby is simply a
justification for rolling dice. I, OTOH see our hobby as a compilation of many
skills rolled into one very unique combination. You have art, history, math,
and comradery all rolled into a game. Everyone loves a game, but few if any
people paint their monopoly pieces, or care about the history of D&D figures, or
calculate factors in Stratego, or spend big money going to conventions to see
old and new friends in order to play Trouble. For me, ancients gaming has it
all, so why not try to do my best at all aspects?
Just an opinion.
