Don,
Barring any natural catastropes, it appears that Steve and I are a go. As
usual there is the mad rush to get figures painted, shielded, and flocked the
night before the trip. I just wish I was more consistent about my painting. I'm
still suffering from the "post Historicon painting slump I go through each year.
Say, what was that code we could use that Pat or Chris was talking about for
LaQuinta? If you don't remember, it's okay.

We would like to invite you to a Warrior tournament at this years Fort Worth
Wars on Sept 25.
The tournament will be 15mm 1600 points on 4' X 6' boards with one FHE
approved list allowed. There will be 3 3.5 hour rounds. Terrain will be
selected by each player. We will be using order cards. Every attempt will
be made to avoid pairing competitors from the same geographical area.
Winners will be paired with winners in subsequent rounds. Sign up is at 7:30
AM on Saturday Sept 25. Round 1 will be from 8:00-11:30. Round 2 will be
from 12:30-4:00 and round 3 will be from 5:00-8:30. There is no cost to
enter other than that to get into the Con itself.
As always if we get 6 NASAMW memebers, this will be a NICT qualifier, and
if we get 8 owners of the Warrior rukebook, we will have FHE prize support
(gift certificates via the 5th horseman program).

I just wanted to thank Don and the rest of the Dallas guys for
putting on such a great weekend. The tourney was fantastic.
Despite seeing my army killed and run off the board by Ambrose and
Tim I had a blast (and learned a few things in the process). Thanks
again guys!! :>)
I look forward to seeing you all again.

Thanks to Don, Pat and Chris for all they did to put on FFW.
We all had a great time and got to meet and play some really super
people. Thanks to everyone who made the trip. Thanks to John, Sean
and Ambrose for three of the most enjoyable tourney games I've
played in a long time.

Hi All,
Sorry slow commenting, but really want to congratulate Don and Co. for FWW.
Despite my Late Hebrews poor showing, I had a blast. Still gotta learn the
army, but it was kewl.
The game against Dave's Late Crusader's was really fun. First time I've seen
both players with double flank marches coming in on Bound 1. Dave Beeson is
a great opponent and I got a couple valuable lessons from the game. First is
that LCh have real issues when forced to breakoff from LC lancers (ouch).
Second, I need to keep my generals a little further apart. Two off them going
down within 240p of one another sent everyone off into captivity.
My second game against Patrick Byrnes was also tres cool. Once again more
Late Crusaders. Great game! Lesson learned about my loose order getting caught
in the open. So what if you're Gibborim - knights still hurt! A question
did come up concerning dicing for generals. Solved it by dicing in front of
Don, since I wanted to keep the fact secret that I was flank marching a command.
Last game was against Dave Dietrich and his Syracusans. First time playing
Dave, although have had opportunities to break bread and chat at previous
get-togethers. A real gentleman and excellent gamer. Aggressive terrain
placement
(three woods in my rear zone) got me a little flustered and I didn't take
full advantage of my capabilities to fight in broken terrain. I guess I didn't
learn enough in previous whomping by Patrick about keeping my loose order away
from mounted. It was an interesting game with 32 4 horse LCh running around
(my 20 and Dave's 12). His 4E units did better than my 2E units and he gave a
me a severe crushing. Nonetheless it was a blast to play.
Thanks to all for a great time. It seemed that no matter where I looked,
people were having a great time. Looking forward to next go round.

Thats a good point, why can't you dice for the General when the command
arrives on the table?

You mean besides it being against the rules, of course...lol
One of the many reasons is that a command flank marching will need orders and
those orders may be misinterpreted if the general is of a non-bold
character...also, you will need to know what orders the command has as it is
flank marching and entering the table.

Not to just come in here and try to defend Jon's point (which really never needs
defending), but your CinC would already know the Character of his generals and
to randomly dice potentially late in the battle is a bit silly. I realize that
you need to maintain surprise, but there is probably another way to do this in a
two player game.

I mostly agree with you Kelly. Just so you know I can accept Jon's point of
view quite comfortably. Marks comments were insightful as usual. I don't
feel that strongly about the issue at all. Chalk it up to being a newbie.
I don't think the idea is silly though. When you send a soldier into battle
for the first time you quite frankly have no idea what he is going to do
until you see it for yourself a few times. Just to be extra spicy about it,
can you ever be sure that an allied general hasn't been bought by the enemy?
Is he as loyal to the cause as he claims? So what if a turn-coat general
appears to follow the plan by flank marching and then attacks you instead?
Presumably the enemy knows this is going to happen though, and I can from a
game mechanics point of view the current system works well enough.

Allan,
I agree that knowledge of how a green soldier will react is an unknown
quantity, but in the case of a general, tribune, or any equivalent, The
commander will generally be aware of the characteristics of his subordinate
commanders. As far as ally generals are concerned, I would be interested in
knowing the percentage of the time that things went sour verses the other way
around. Trust me, it is scary when it does happen as I wittnessed it first hand
with my game verses Sean Scott at Fort Worth Wars. You would have thought I had
been the first man to have given birth to a cow it disheartened me so!

On this subject maybe its time to look at the cost of an allied general?
Personally i am happy with them as they are, i feel it reflects the numbers of
battles where allied generals did act oddly by sitting idly by or switching
sides.
Maybe a points cost at time of writing list of say 10 points to guarantee an
allied general is bold would be fair.
>>As far as ally generals are concerned, I would be interested in knowing
the percentage of the time that things went sour verses the other way
around.
Me too, I bet it's not as high as 1 in 36.

subordinate commanders. As far as ally generals are concerned, I would be
interested in knowing the percentage of the time that things went sour
verses the other way around. Trust me, it is scary when it does happen as I
wittnessed it first hand with my game verses Sean Scott at Fort Worth Wars.

Me too, I bet it's not as high as 1 in 36.

The commander will generally be aware of the characteristics of his
subordinate commanders. As far as ally generals are concerned, I would be
interested in knowing the percentage of the time that things went sour
verses the other way around. Trust me, it is scary when it does happen as I
wittnessed it first hand with my game verses Sean Scott at Fort Worth Wars.
