Has anyone seriously looked at this list? If I were the sort to
paint up Turshish figures, this would be my army. LC, Dailami
infantry, tons of bow and HC and P armed El! I am have to cough up
some cash and actually buy this one!

Wanax,

I've played Gaznavids in the past and so has Bill Low.
I tended to run the elephants in 2's and the HC as
regular w/ minimum foot and tons of LC.

Bill Low took a different approach. More foot,
especially the HI Jls,B,Sh (now required) and the HC
as irreg.

Different approaches, but both usually successful. I
loved running the army and I'll be rebuilding it in
the next few years.

The elephants are great. irreg B - so they can take a
shot and waver and then stomp on in.

The hardest part I've faced is the coordination
between the elephants and the non-indian cav.

Its what I run in 15mm. It has a strong W/L record in Tourny play (9-0),
and a strong W/L Record in home play (undefeated as of yet). Several of the
wins were due to a bit of luck (up 3 remember Kelly!), but it is very
resiliant, and has plenty of punching and delaying power. I have run the El
in 2E and 3E bodies, each with success for different reasons. The HC
totally rocks. My favorite cav in all the world is IRR B L,B,Sh. The LC is
really point efficient too as it all comes as B, with the option to buy JLS
and/or Sh. So you go JLS,B,Sh front rank, and B only in the back. A nice
point effiecient troop type. If only the Ghaz line infantry was MI instead
of HI (:. It has all of its tourny wins at 1600 Pts 3.5 hours in 15mm. In
home play it has been run every where from 1000 points as an ally to another
1000 point army, to 1600 straight up, to 3000 points. BTW we play 2000
points on a 10X6 table. Talk about open flanks!

This is a nice army, but personally I would opt for one of the many
pike/elephant combination armies over this one.

To me, pike is a better weapon to combine with the elephant, because
it is less vulnerable to cavalry than the Ghaznavid infantry.

Boy, do I ever remember!!! I still have trouble sleeping at night thinking
about how you roll up 3 multiple consequtive times when your troops just hear my
spoken name!! When am I going to get my next chance to lose to your Ghaznavid
kids? It's been too long. Your buddy who you "Own."

Let me assure you the Ghaz infantry fears no cav sans maybe EHK and SHK. All
others just suffer too heaviliy from the massed bow fire. SHC don't suffer
much from the support shot they will take in the charge, but they will likely
get prepped twice due to movement ranges. The Ghaz further have the tendancy
to bring fire arrows and if they can hold their shots will even light a fire
under the heavier knight types. Guilty of a bad pun.

My Patricians have run into this buzz saw more than once and not been happy
about it at the end of the day. We have played 1600, 2000 and 3000 points on
the big table here and this is a very solid army. The strengths far outweigh
the perceived weaknesses.
Chris

Chris ...

Being good against all cavalry except EHK & SHK, wouldn't do you much
good in San Antonio. :-)

That's kind of like being the best football team in the Big-12, other
than Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas State and Nebraska.

It's not that I dislike these guys, they are damn fine army!! I just
like the elephant/pike combination better.

Thanks ... g

So….if Kansas State is #1, where would Ohio State fall into this discussion?

Sorry, couldn’t resist. When you lose to Michigan, you have to hold on to
the good memories of a season….

I have to agree with Dave considering that Kansas State is my second most
favorite big 8 (12) team. . .

Big 10.1 won't be a mongrel conference unless Notre Dame is allowed in -
then it WILL be time to leave the neighborhood. ;-)
