The *** was because when I wrote the list I couldn't remember if the
LI XB could be upgraded, which they couldn't, so it was 6 LI Reg D.
If they could be upgraded it would have been 4 Reg C, hence 22
points.

As for dismounting, you'd think it would work, but everytime I
dismount in front of bow, they seem to roll up 2 causing disorder if
24 figures (as with Derek) or halt (16 figures). And before
commented, when I have so small and few units, 8 figs of SHI with
THCW should do good against MI, B, and no shield... unless the MI
roll up in prep shooting.

I did face Selucid, my first game. Dismount knight for pike,
dismount LC for elephants (4E ir B LC JLS,SH to 2E Icr C MI, JLS,Sh)
and (the only real way to beat Selucids) hunt thracians. Lists
without thracians becomes very tough. Mark Hissen (?) played these
Selucids.

Also faced Berber (Rob Turnball-a tough loss, but got 2 points I
think), Derek (a loss, think I scored maybe 1 point. Dice were
cold.) , and the other was Ir A Islamic Persian (I think) that
rolled even or down and didn't get good bow fire. Luckily my first
two games were wins followed by 2 losses.

As I have come to believe that luck of the draw of opponents has a
lot to do with winning a tournement, I decided that the SHK alone
was better, especially with 1 list where you have the choice of
having a mix of troops and not having enough of anything to be
effective or have a one trick pony. Obviously I got sick of draws
(with Italian foot) and decided to go for a win or loss. The games
are not as quick as you think, as there are lots of combats to slow
things down, although there are a lot of bounds (8-10). Also, a
knight heavy army almost always guarentees a 2 or 3 point loss if
not a win, which is good for touneys.

Excellent reviews. I too disagree with some findings, such as the
close order in HYW english, but overall I think you've taken these
armies appart. I'm now very curious to have your opinion on my
latest two armies :)

As you point out the generalship factors of competence and style play
some large factor in determining the actual validity of the army, and
as recently discussed nothing is a given outside of a vacuum.

Two things I noticed. One some old standards are reapprearing. In
the dieing days of 6th, Nikephorian was very popular and is returning
in numbers. Seluccids of the heyday of 7th are returning. Odd dual
armed low moral oriental armies seem to also be returning (or never
actually left). Perhaps the assendancy of the SHK and massed
shooters is tempered with stalwarts of old. :)

Ewan

You are one of the smartest guys I have had the pleasure of getting
completely run over by in fun game. PLEASE write an article for
spearpoint. Better still, you write part 1 and Frank writes part 2
and Mark S. writes part 3.

Eric
