If you were to outfit this unit with one shot of flaming arrows, you add 36
points to the cost, almost doubling the cost of the unit.
Better to get two units.

I had a few moments this past weekend to ponder the amazing first
crusader list. I tend towards the useless in lists often, but never
to the degree possible in this list. Don't get me wrong, as the
useless troops actually make this list a "contender" IMO. Here is my
latest possibility:
12E IrgE LMI B & IPW
If I wanted to force march to allow room for deployment. If I wanted
to ambush from the woods. If I wanted to hold a steep and rocky hill
on the flank. If I wanted to focus the enemy's attention. If I
wanted to flank march a large mass of nothing to make the enemy hold
a large reserve. If I wanted to give flaming arrows to a total
surprise!
These are the reasons for such a beast. At 1.5 pt each, that unit
cost 43 points with a 6E frontage. Shooting on the B table we assume
3 shooters per frontage (front rank only) averaging -1 die roll:
Vs:
LC 3@1=4 (bow armed returning fire in skirmish)
HC 3@3=8
El 3@2=6
LMI 3@1=4
So shooting 6E of LC B in skirmish yeilds 9@1=13 or 1 CFP. 2E HC
L/sh is 6@3=15 or 2CPF. 3E El is 9@2=18 or 1 CPF. 6E LMI is 9@1 or
nothing.
Now, if the enemy can have TF, look at the difference as IrgE LMI
with flamming arrows fire on the artillery factor! only LC don't see
a difference. What a surprise, eh?
Otherwise under attack orders, thes guys are perfect for side
ambushes where a wood boarders with 1E of passage between itself and
other terrain. Imagine IrgE charging out of the woods to generate a
waver test!
Generally I would use these guys simply to force a couple of CPF on
the enemy by shooting or forcing a charge from them. The IPW and B
both fight as well as swords, so unless shaken already they will
stand at least a turn before routing if in brush.
As they would recover once passed steady foot, I venture it would be
43 points worth a CPF or two.
Just radical thoughts of humorous tactics. Beginners are not
encouraged to run IrgE LMI as it may be hazzardous to your mental
health. They are still dangerous to their own side in massive
numbers, since a lost unit is a lost unit and counts towards army
rout.

As long as I don't have to paint them!

This is true! Better to buy them as a 6E unit to give flaming
arrows. I think beyond the novelty, though, for someone to ride up
and take such a shot would be itself worth the points :)
Like I said, this is for humor not tactical reasoning
