On a more positive note, I am looking forward to Imperial Warrior's
release, especially to see the Sassanid list, the army for which I am
currently building.

Lots of popular armies here.

Continue the good work.

If you're not already a member, you could also join the ancmed group. There's
a lot of discussion on there about Sassanids at the moment.

when you sign on to Yahoo just type in ancmed in the search section, and it
should come up in the available groups to join.

Yes, theme on friday both scales. The open is on Saturday and may be 15mm
only - Scott??

Open and Theme are 1600. (Minis are 1200 and teams are 2000).

For some reason the Warrior events for historicon are not up on the
www.nasamw.org website yet - I will investigate.

Jon, Scott, et.al.;

I wanted to let you know how much I have been impressed with the
Warrior army lists (having purchased them all). I suppose, I would
consider myself more of a 'classical period' afficionado, so I was
really looking forward to getting IW.

After it's arrival, I poured through all the lists. Man, yuse guys
leave no stone unturned. Tremendous job. I think the way you've
handled the early Romans is very creative and really makes them
interesting and unique.

Additionally, after lurking during the latest army voracity
discussion I have found myself cobbling together some lists and
contemplating a Warrior army.....I hate how this happens. Here you
are perfectly content in your own little cocoon, and the next thing
you know, you're rolling bones at the Warrior Open at Historicon! I
mentioned on another group that I wanted to enter the Warrior open
and the DBM open and then write up a nice Slingshot/Spearpoint
article detailing my experiences.

Which begs the question(s)...Will there be a 25mm theme/open at H-
con this year? Is the open 1600 point or 1200 point. I've got to
field the 'Roadkill Romans'. I searched the archive but couldn't
find any info. Thanks in advance.

Dave,

I had the pleasure of playing (and trying to break) the Early Romans for
several months before Cold Wars. We started playing them against armies
from Feudal Warrior as Knight armies give EIR and Marions fits. I played
the Fuedal armies in each case (Fuedal English, Early Polish (4 different
ways), and Early German - the later two with the 1.5 rank 2HCT troop type.).
I must say that the list rules really help the old punching bag EIR out vs
this type of foe. The Marion list is really good and can stand up to HK and
massed bow fire quite well. We have not run SHK against the new Romans yet.
Prior to the list rules our EIR players (2) had never beaten a solid early
knight army (HK). With the rules they split 50-50, and the one time we
played Marions, the Marions won.

The fulcum is key to protecting fragile legionairies from L. We of course
developed a tactic to beat the fulcum, but as you are trying to do that,
your opponent is not exactly standing still Smile. For the Marions, the LHI
not testing waver is huge, and for all legionaries being able to counter
charge spells the difference between breaking or not for some unit sizes.
Add in testudo for missile protection and they are playable.

Wonder how the Marions stack up against HYWE? I can field a HYWE army, so I
will have to get Patrick, and or Chris to bring the Marions out against
them. I think for a full field test, we will all sit down and create both
armies knowing who the opponent will be.

Scott, is it the 'base intent' that if played the way they have been in the
past, these will be in both scales? I have more interest out here in people
going to HCon than ever before and now is the time when a player plans his
armies for that time. I know you don't know, but could you give us a likely
scenario?

I can tell you that 100% the Roman Theme (info on the nasamw web site) will
occur in both scales on Friday at Hcon and nothing, repeat nothing, Warrior-wise
will be scheduled to conflict with the theme. I am 125% committed to thematic
tournament gaming.

There will be a Mini on Thu and an Open on Saturday. I can't go into any more
detail yet because I'm waiting on the last of my NICT polleees to send in their
responses before I move forward. What I do with that will drive the specifics
of the Mini and Open.

Scott, is it the 'base intent' that if played the way they have been in the

No problem. In the past, here's how the general schedule went:

Thu: Mini, both scales
Fri: Theme, both scales
Sat: NICT in 25mm, Open in 15mm

The reason for the Saturday "split" is that most of the 25mm player base
participates in the NICT, hence not enough folks to generate a decent (6+
player) 25mm Open.

This year, if, repeat *if* we have an NICT that runs longer, said NICT would
most likely start on Thursday (as I said in a previous email, nothing will
conflict with the Friday theme) with a couple of games, then X number of NICTers
would continue on Saturday with 3 games, tourney over Sat night.

That would result in the Mini on Thu probably being only in 15mm because most of
the 25mm player base would be in the NICT.

The Open on Saturday, however, would be in both scales since X number of NICTers
would be freed up to play (if they want) and I am aware of 2-4 other 25mm
players each year who aren't in the NICT so that would make for a rather robust
event.

Note that 15mm events are not affected in any of this.

Hope that helps.

scott

This sounds so damned good, guys! My IW should be in the mail soon,
so I will also begin building 25mm Romans. I've been waiting a long
time to find a way to run Romans, perhaps it is here Wink
