I started wargames with 5th Edition WRG in the 70's and left when
DBM took "root" the Australians will see the pun in take "Root" !!.
I must admit I liked 6th Edition better than 7th , but 7th played
ok, I have not played Warrior yet, but after having an evening
looking at the rules and the lists, I have even been out to the
garage to look and see if I still have the 4 scythed charriots or if
I let them go.....no Great they are there. Oh! Wow and load of
nearly painted naked Gauls still on their painting sticks!!!, must
finish them !!!. What I'm trying to say is that I'm all enthused
again for my first love "Ancients".
I especially like the way that army list can convey subtle things
that are not in the standard rules. I'm miffed that wedges have
gone, my Companions look great in wedge.
I hate the competition type games, I played in a few comps and even
came third in one with an Armenian army under 6th edition, but
the "nit picking and bitchyness is not for me". I have never quite
understood the logic of argueing a point about the historical
accuracy of a troop type or its formation in an army and then
fighting against an opposing army that it never fought against in
history. Who give a monkeys if Tutonic knights get chainsaws when
they are fighting against Early Egyptian. I think competion armies
should be of equal points, but the army draw should be random. After
all the object of a competion is to find the best player not the
best army. If my club puts on a competion I could supply about ten
1600 point armies and the players could draw lots for them each
game.
When I play games its usually against friends of many years standing
and its FUN. Please lets remember the FUN side of it all.
Its a sad fact that in the years I have spent away from the hobby,
DBM and competition has taken over, but Warrior will I think go a
long way in redressing the decline.

Alex: Welcome back. Thanks for the kind words about the army lists. Bill and I
work very hard on them and while we don't expect everyone to agree with our
interpretation of history, it's nice to hear some positive comments. And yes,
the lists are not balanced for outside of period--they are looked at in a
contemporary context.
Have fun gaming. Tourney's aren't for everyone and I certainly would like to
see Warrior be as much used for evening or weekend get togethers as anything
else.
