Warrior Ancient and Medieval Rules

I am bantering around an idea for keeping new people who we have attracted.
This would be to give away painted Fast Warrior armies. The basis of the
idea is to get players to donate lead from the fields of extras that come
from the buying 10 figs to field 8. I'll paint, base, and flock the figs.

I am trying to define the process for each step I see necessary. Which
would be as follows:

1. Defining the army to paint - this would be mandated by what people could
lend as well as what type of troops work for what army. ie What kind of foot
or horse troop would be most prevalent by the gamers OR what kind of foot
troop will work for multiple armies.

A second issue for this is size. I ofcourse want to persue 25mm as that is
what I find most pleasing, but is that were a lot of extra lead is?

A third issue is Cav to Foot ratio, I assume there is more foot available
and therefore initial FW army would be mostly foot.

2. Obtaining the lead - I need an idea of who would be willing to donate,
and what strings would be attached. Or could I get each person on the list
to donate 2 figures certainly people have 2 extra figs available (but of the
right army list?)

3. Painting, basing, and flocking - this is actually the least of my
concerns. I believe I can paint something that someone will play with. Of
course there are ideas of being able to parcel this out 1 person paint, 1
person base, and 1 person flock (but that is a bottom level though)

4. Who exactly to give this away to - this is my biggest thought and the one
I can use the most ideas on. It brings in a big question of risk vs.
reward. The risk is my investment of time and the possibility of never
seeing the player again, or him selling the army (hhhmmmm maybe this call
for a poor paint job), while the reward is to be able to immediately
integrate someone into a Fast Warrior setting which accelerates learning
process.


Does anyone have thoughts on this subject??? Anyone tried to broach this
before and run into obstacles??

do have some stuff in both scales that I'd gladly donate, no strings attached.
In fact, I have all kinds of misc 15mm stuff that you can have entirely. The
25mm stuff is predominantly Asiatic in nature, HC and above. Plus I have some
really old crap that's partially painted (nothing you'd want to use) and I might
even piece together an army just from that. It's lead I inherited 20 years ago
that I poke thru to find the odd piece here and there. Much of it would
possibly work.

Pat,

I like many of your ideas specially the idea of providing a painted army. I
have toyed around with the idea buying a small army from eBay and using it
as a prize for any newbies. Usually these armies are not painted to badly
and you get a good assortment of troop.

However, I think most new people are going to want 15-mm armies. While
25-mm look better when painted, most new gamers are intimidated by the size
and the amount of troops they have to paint. I would recommend 15-mm armies
for the new gamers. Once they are hooked, they will start paint 25-mm on
their own.

Although, if I was a new comer, I would be happy with whatever army size you
are giving away.

We talked about this idea on the ride home from OKC and although Kelly's
intent is right in line with what we were thinking it has the negative aspect
of possibly still awarding the prize to an experienced player. Most of us
would presumably recognize the mis-intent of such an award and refuse it, but
others may not. So down here our intention is be more innocuous with the
awards to be sure that the "freshmen" receive the toys and hopefully stay
interested. Of course this always runs the risk of somebody who just doesn't
care getting a prize and turning it around on ebay, but we try to avoid such
synical thoughts.

Patrick, As you know, I'm giving away two Painted NKE Fast Warrior Armies at
the next Call to Arms Warrior event here in KC. As usual, we will have excellent
prizes with Dave Smith and the FHE guys. I like my idea of giving one away to
the guy that places next to last. Often, this is a new player or a first timer.
Guys like Jon Cleaves, Scott Holder and other veteran players will likely finish
higher in the tourney and not receive these armies and they "should" go to
players who can use them ie: newbs. Also, I offer one up to the highest placing
out of towner to entice one of you Texan Gunsingers to come and whoop up on us
Missouri/Kansas boys! Hope to see you there!
