I am a bit mixed up on this now. At 6 inches, a 4 element unit of
close order Longbows shoots 8, correct? A 4 element unit of bows
would also shoot 8 I think.

If these same units are in skirmish, the longbows and bows would
shoot how many each?

Thanks in advance,

Steven Hollowell

at 240p? yes. there are 16 figures, halved to 8. Note that 8.4 says: "They
are not halved twice it shooting both overhead (8.7) and at long range, since
both these have
the same effect of making a high trajectory necessary. " This means that the
second rank of longbows is never halved for both shooting from the second
rank (overhead) and long range. Therefor a 4E unit of LB shoots 8 at long range
and 12 at 120p or less.

True.

At 240p, they would both shoot 6. The second rank halved for foot skirmish
IS cumulative with the halving for long range.

Thanks in advance,

Your welcome.

Oooohhhh, thank you whoever asked this question....

Ya know I _thought_ it said that (from faded memories of TOG and
glimpses in the Warrior rulebook) but a couple times have been unable
to put my finger on it. Mostly I think I have been playing, after the
first couple times of not finding this, with my longbows shooting at
6 figs (4E 16 fig unit) at long range. My shooters just got a whole
lot better at range!

Now the interaction between crossbows and longbows looks a bit
better. Same number of figures shooting at >120p and better longbow
factors in typical head-up situations.

Does this also apply for skirmish formation rear ranks? The same 4E
16-fig unit of longbowmen in skirmish shoot a whole 8 figs at 120-
240p and 12 figs at 0-120p? Or is it 6 for over effective range
skirmish, 8 for over effective range non-skirmish, and 12 for under
effective range in either formation?

The answer is in the same mail from me, but it is 6/8/12.
