I'd like to mention as an aside to anyone interested in the Feudal
German list that an complete gallery of plates of the Manesse Codex is
available online at:
http://www.manesse.de/manesse_start.shtml
Its in german, and it doesn't have the text, and doesn't have the
incomplete plates(my facsimile does if anyone is really interested,
even though they are not), but it is a fantastic painting reference
for those who are interested in doing up a German list army of the
period.
A couple of particularly interesting plates are:
http://www.manesse.de/img/062.jpg
Which shows 2 men fighting with sword and buckler. This plate is
interesting in that it is nearly identical to a plate in Manuscript
133 (a 13th century sword an buckler manual contemporary to the
codex). The techniques in 133 are leading to believe that bucklers
were not really shields, but really a low cost gauntlet, as all the
techniques for the buckler involve protecting the sword hand from a
cut or thrust.
And
http://www.manesse.de/img/018.jpg
Which show knights grappling in battle, a common feature of the combat
manuals of the middle ages, and accounts of battles like Tagliocozzo.
Have fun!
Cole
