What are the tactical implementation differences between loose-order
skirmishables and close-order pavisiers in a missile screen?

Take the contrast between these kinds of longbowmen and crossbowmen
for example, as a missile screen and base of operation for SHK.

I would guess the CO with pavise is a target for enemy foot just like
the LO is a target for enemy mounted. So one would have different
opposition to be the most concerned about. But that is a very surface
statement on my part to what is probably a more complicated issue.

I guess another surface item would be that longbowmen, being loose-
order and able to have 2HCW, can double as terrain troops which close-
order pavisier crossbowmen absolutely can not do - so you have use
something else specific for that role rather than assigning ad-hoc on
the fly.

As an enhancement...

Would it prudent if possible to combine the two, at different places
along the front, and have the best (and worst) of both?

One could hope to optimize by adjusting to differing conditions of
enemy deployment and terrain that way and not simply offer the enemy
his choice of targets.

Of course, the idea is too you have real nasty SHK lurking if he gets
too gung ho about it... which is my favorite part of these armies but
that is an emotional evaluation and not a tactical one.

Or is it better to just stick with one or the other - especially if
one is just sooooo much better.
