My thanks for Dale Shanek for organizing this event, and to Game Habitat for
hosting it. Here are a few thoughts on the games from my point of view.

I'm really proud of how my son Alex (age 12) played. He played Timurids. He drew
blood in every game, and had a couple of 5-1 losses that could easily have ended
up differently with some help from the dice (watching your opponent roll +4 with
elephants is tough, as is failing a counter with steady Reg Bs). Alex also got
his first 5 point win, against the Burgundian Ordannance. That game featured
Mongol lancers riding down organ guns, followed by LMI 1HCW,B,Sh charging down
more organ guns, followed by elephants rolling over pikemen who failed their
waver for the destroyed organ guns.

I played Knights of Saint John. Lucky for me, John Bauman could only play one
day. He demolished Alex 5-1 in his first game, and demolished me 5-2 in his
second game. My game against John featured a glorious moment well worth the
game, win or lose. John had inadvertently left a unit of Incans in skirmish on
a hill, within reach of my CinC even after his evade move. It left my CinC
exposed for a bound or so, but seemed worth it to me. The point of the game is
to make your opponent pick up the dice and pass his waver tests.

So here goes the Grand Master of the Knights of Saint John, storming up the
hill, routing the Incans before him. Next bound, the Incan subgeneral charges
the Grand Master in one flank, and another Incan unit charging into the other
flank. They fail to do 3 CPF. Next bound, K St J militia handgunners and
archers rout one of the Incan units, but the Incan CinC charges frontally into
the Grand Master, again failing to do 3 CPF, but doing more and putting the
Grand Master over 15 CPF. The CinC's unit is destroyed, and the standard goes
down.

Did I mention this was on a hilltop? In view of my entire army?

I had a bunch of waver tests to take. The first 12 of them I rolled either a 1
or a 2. Game over.

The last game was against Dave Lauerman's Sassanids. On 1200 points, Dave took
48 figures of EHC. Dave was also in first place going into the final round.
Obviously that must have been some kind of aberration, since Derek has told us
all how badly EHC suck.

That game could easily have gone either way. Dave led the action by charging
into Reg C LHI 2HCT,CB with his EHC. My halberdiers were taking the charge in
the open, and uneasy due to elephants. However, I passed the waver, routed the
EHC, and Dave's flank unravelled from there. Elsewhere I made enough counters,
wavers, and evades to keep Dave from coming to grips with me. So it ended up
5-1, but could easily have been 5-1 the other way.

There were a couple of minor rules issues that came up, but overall very
friendly. I'll post on the rules issues separately.
