Ewan - Nah, I don't embarass that easily. Given that those were my
first 1600 point games, I was happy to hang in as long as I did. I
was especially appreciative of how accomodating players of yours,
Tim's, and Jake's level are to take the time to instruct a newcomer
(and in the most friendly way). It was lots of fun.

I might mention to any lurkers out there, who haven't yet got up the
gumption to approach any active players, what are you waiting for? If
you're just reading the rules and silently following this egroup
(like I did for 8 months), I'd suggest going out and find the nearest
players to you and see if you can't get some games in. If Jake, Tim,
and Ewan are representative, then most Warrior players will be happy
 to have you join in.

My group in the north west of the UK are more than willing to have newbies
 join in.

I dont know. We never liked DBM and so we dropped out until Warrior came on
 the scene.

The following comments may be disjointed but i am on my way out to watch
 England, Hic..

Our group of half a dozen all within 10 miles is quite strong with regular
 gaming.

We are trying to increase it i will have 2 8x4 boards set up permanently
soon in my games room. You will have noticed on the board we would like to run
 a
tournament locally, one that means something because without a title i
cannot see it bringing in many players from elswhere.

It is great to play against new opposition.

No one else has shown any interest in running a tournament elswhere, im not
even sure how many UK players are on this board. If there was a title event
elsewhere some of us would go i would imagine.

I have enough players within 50 miles for half a tournament - it is whether
the other 8 or so needed would come. We live in a nice part of the UK with
cheap accommodation and nice scenery. Personally i think the uk title would be
the carrot to motivate some players.

There were very few entries at the last 7th tourney at Derby. We went.

A UK title event held anywhere would be better for the game than no event at
 all in my opinion.

On the other hand i am not sure we can tie it into a con or other event (a
criteria for recognition as a UK title), so i do not know whether it will
 happen soon or at all.

I did offer the possibility of the event to our local Maritime festival
committee (next june), but they seemed more interested in a Chess tourney which
they know is another of my interests.

It would be handy if any UK players dropped me a line so i can discuss with
 them.

What is MK? I guess i should know but abbreviations often catch me out.

 Thanks
 Mark Mallard

I think that latter is certainly true - after all, many of us are well
aware what a gentle and meek soul Tim is, for instance. But note the
'8 months reading and following' also - that is likely the basis for
someone to come out and actually have a reasonable first game against
 top-level folk.

Milton Keynes - sorry. One of the stronger tournament clubs in the
 country, and my old home.

"gentle and meek"? Obviously I'm slipping. Hmmm. I shall endeavor to
apply a bit more heat to my leftist leaning brethren who obviously
haven't spent a great deal of time outside the fantasy world, for
instance, inside a certain Yale institution. But, that doesn't mean
we can't have a great time beating each other up...

There is no convention or other public gaming event in the UK to which would
 tie a UK National Championship?
