Hey Harlan,
Can I have my Trapezitoi and Peltastoi back when I go to play in the

I have played only about five games in 25mm over the years, but
honestly feel the NICT should be in the 25mm scale. The grandness of
that scale is fitting for a national championship tournament.
It is my opinion that one list is a poor option. Most armies that
offer enough flexibility to make two varied lists, gain even more
benefit when the list count is reduces to one.
1600 points, 4 hours? Too many points ... games that are too long.
Then again, anything that eliminated the "wall anchored on the edge
of the world" effect, it a bonus in my book. I have never gotten the
point of this sort of combat. It is unrealistic, not historical, and
quite frankly, reminds me of lining up plastic soldiers and rolling
marbles at them.
Just my two cents ... g

Having 16 tables engaged in 25mm games does many things that 15mm
simply does not. 1) The public display is impressive. 2) Games can
go faster because of the table to scale ratio that we debate
endlessly in here. 3) See #1, because of that, we "compete" better
with another 25mm-only gaming system that shall go nameless but
involves lotsa dice:) .

<DS> I am on a couple of other Yahoo groups devoted to different
rules set, and I must tell you that on these groups the NICT Warrior
event at H-con last year created quite impressive threads on said
groups. In particular, that game that uses mainly 15mm and is
labeled as 'too abstract', had many, many participants salivating
over the impressive Warrior games and tourney. Likewise, in another
system that specializes in 25mm and lotsa dice, many complimentary
comments came forth after the NICT. You definitely got the
attention of those gamers, and IMO is the first step in getting them
to try it out.
Haven't mentioned this to anyone yet, but I am busily painting up a
25mm army to coincide with next years Historicon theme. My plan is
to enter into the Warrior theme or Open mini, the DBM theme or Open,
and to do an AAR for Spearpoint/Slingshot to share my experiences.
I'm doing my favorite all time army.

We have two tourneys a year in KC proper. So far they have been 15mm only.

I go to a total of 5-7 out of town events a year and as many in KC. Of say,
10 such events, 7 are Warrior-related.

>And we were in the back of the room. Not next year! I guess this means we/me
might be doing something a skosh bit right:) Dave, thanks for sharing that.
After todays incoming rounds, my self esteem needed a boost:) :)
>Let me add that the one-list tourney brought a wider variety of viable tourney
armies to the table and to be honest, I think that really adds to the "public
spectacle" side benefit of promoting the game--the players get full credit for
that. Instead of endless knight and elephant armies, we had folks competing at
the highest levels with a broad array of armies. The 2003 NICT went a long way
to changing public perception that only a few number of lists dominate the game.
Just look at the top 6 finishers in terms of armies used.

>Hope it's Romans of some ilk. The Theme should be a blast with all new lists
and new Romans. And don't forget that FHE will be defending it's Grudge Match
Title against On Military Matters. A 4 on 4 Theme event in 25mm with our
esteemed opponents running EIR and we're running......beats the hell outta us.
We're looking at either Early Germans (that'll be a quick game--Teutoberger Wald
or Bust!) or Numidians (Jugurtha's Revenge or something along those lines).
2500 pts on a 10x5 table (I think). I might add that the Sunday morning FW
tourney will be theme armies in 15mm. Loads of fun--I'm looking forward to it.

The NICT 'belongs' to NASAMW. At the moment anyway. 99% of national
championship tourneys are put on by the game company in question and not a
non-profit.
At some point in the future, FHE may 'take control' of the Warrior national
tourney, but not for some time, if ever.
For now, there is no way even I would support calling for a move of the NICT
without a huge groundswell of support - even bigger than we had in Denver in
92. HCon is its home and is the premier historical miniatures event in the
country. For me to recommend moving it - even if it were FHE run - would take
an
appropriate venue (KC cons not the solution) and a clear majority of the
players desiring it.
I was giving Scott grief earlier, but he's right - you can 'say' that we
ought to 'poll everyone', but there are those who get to the big events and
those
who talk about it. I wouldn't even think about moving it unless we had the
support of those who actually get qualified and make the trip. They have
committed the time, effort and money to do so year after year - other stuff is
speculation.
There is the issue of public relations. A non-HCon national event is in
danger of being a tree falling in a forest. We made huge strides for Warrior
last
summer with a superbly attended, classy looking and well-run event - and
everyone saw it. If we had a nationals in a Warrior-only venue, what would that
do for recruiting?
In 92 we had a lot of support from the playership for a try at a different
site. Genghis Con (one of my favorite events) had a large, thriving ancients
community and was better attended in those days. The KC cons are very small
affairs and all the ancients players are us, with a few hardy souls who make the
trip from one state away.
A non-HCon nationals in the center of the country would help certain folks
travel there a little eaiser. All the other parts of that idea are currently in
the negative column.
I was one of the most vocal proponents for moving it around, but I would not
be again unless I saw the same conditions come together.

Happy Holidays to all,
I think we should have a poll on whether we could have both 25's and 15's
for the NICT, but have a 15mm at another time and location, say, KC or Big
D?
Chris Tebo and I made the trip to H-con about 5 or 6 years ago. Chris and I
both thought it was bogus to have the NICT in just 25's for many reasons. We
said we would tell Scott how we felt when we got there, we said, " Scott the
25mm only thing is Bogus:), we want to talk about it:)", Scott simply said "
Please, just go watch one or two games", we did. After we had watched about
a game and one half we marched over to the dealer room and bought 25mm
troops. I am still working on mine and look forward to playing them. I can
not think of a reason not to have both. What would it hurt?
