To the Wargaming Community

Fellow gamers, it has come to my attention that few negative remarks
have been made about the value of NASAMW's membership on various
mailing lists. The latest comments are focused on NASAMW's choice of
offering its members the option of joining the International Wargaming
Federation. NASAMW choose to make this offer after careful
consideration. Some of the factors that we considered were: IWF
policies, their political considerations pertaining to how they relate
to other national clubs, how the IWF membership would be paid for and
who would benefit from NASAMW joining this international group. We
considered NASAMW joining the IWF a benefit for all parties.

NASAMW is governed by its Executive Council, which is elected by the
members. NASAMW is one of a few national gaming organizations, which
is not sponsored and controlled by a gaming company. We support
miniature gaming in no less than five rule systems. This brings a
diverse group of individuals together for the common goal of good, fun
gaming. We are also a volunteer organization, which means that things
sometimes do not function as perfectly as we would like. If you have
any problems or questions concerning NASAMW, please feel free to
contact your regional representative, an elected officer or me. For
more information, you can visit our website at http://www.nasamw.org/

As president of NASAMW, I want to assure all my fellow wargamers that
the NASAMW Executive Council has and will continue to work for the
good and promotion of the hobby.

Eric Turner
President of North America Society of Ancient and Medieval Wargamers

(LE) This is not the real forum for this, so I'll be very brief.

I have raised some questions about recent decisions of the NASAMW
Executive Council and the real motivations for the decisions. This
led on the DBM list to a short, furious, debate between Bruce Meyer
and myself (Bruce acting as the spokesman for the current EC).

I believe that the current EC is close to destroying NASAMW as an
effective organization due to a failure to serve the membership.
Those who are NASAMW members have very few benefits to begin with, and
now have fewer of them as a result of the EC decision to change NICT
qualification rules. I also took exception with the EC voting to act
as a conduit to allow people to join the International Wargaming
Federation and then voting themselves the perk of not having to pay
for their own memberships (but instead use NASAMW money for this). My
complaint is not that they don't deserve a perk, but that it is, IMO,
improper for them to give it to themselves -- with an election in just
a couple of months it is something that the membership should have
been asked about (and which they would have gladly approved).

The full scope of my points can be found on the Yahoo group
NorthAmericanDBM (found on
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NorthAmericanDBM/) along with Bruce's
countepoints.

The gist of it all is that I think Eric needs to be replaced as
President of NASAMW by someone with a better understanding of the
long-term implications of the decisions that are being made. I am
thinking seriously of running, Chris Damour has already indicated an
intent to run.

There is a feeling that my unpolished observations are too divisive
and a more PC person needs to head NASAMW. OTOH, PC leaders have
gotten us to our current situation because they lacked vision and
courage -- which they seem to have given away in their rush to please
people.
