Technically, they are already countersunk, but not deep enough for a quick hold
from crazyglue. I personally hate glueing stuff like that together - the
crazyglue never works fast enough for me and I seem to waste a lot of time
waiting around for the glue to set.

Drat! I was assuming that OG already had countersunk the spearheads so
that part would be moot, or else that the shaft and head would already
come together in one piece. They're not? Oh well, at least it'll be easier
than the few times I've done similar countersink spear jobs in 15mm!

Okay, I can live with that. The biggest problem with the dremel is getting
the hole started. Making an existing hole deeper doesn't bother me. Thanks
for the info.

Dudes

I use the OG spears all the time and it takes me seconds to make a whole set of
spears with a dremel and super glue. the hole in the spearhead is started, a
quick dremel and some glue and you're done.

Yes, as I say, this is what I would expect. I am looking forward to it as
an alternative to cutting and hammering my own 15mm spears out of brass
wire. I am also looking forward to not having to measure and cut my own
bases. Thanks for your help and advice on these issues, Jon. And Todd, as
well. I hope this discussion has also helped somebody else on the list.

What is this fabled dremel of which you speak, and where might I purchase one?

Dremel is the brand name of the original high speed miniature handheld
drill used by jewelers, model makers, and others. Sears craftsman makes
essentially the same tool, and you can get them battery rechargeable,
totally cordless, or plug in the wall style. You'll find this baby at
Sears or any high end hobby or tool store.

They are very useful for miniatures conversions, drilling out figures'
hands, sanding or grinding off flash, etc.

Make sure to get the multi-speed if available.

Greetings Greek and Todd,
I black primer my 28mm Japanese. It looks good an paints quickly, for my
bronze age I primer bronze and blackwash.. I'm all to often forced to rush
troops out for Cons so I have gotten good at mass production.

Also, if you forget to paint something than at least it isn't as noticeable.

Vini Vidi Vici transfers sell brass spears where the tips have been
cut to a point and flattened. They sell them in three lengths for
pike, LTS/ Lance and Jls/spear. They come about 40 to a pack and
cost, well I forget the cost. When I saw them I bought tons and
haven't had to go back since, but all I have to do with them is use
a file to take off the flash and I like to round off the outside
edges with a file. In my opinion the spear tips on the OG are too
big for the shaft (no doubt a function of enough size to accomodate
the appropriate sized shaft and still be mass producable) and look
rather cartoonish.

A cheaper and more painless way to make great looking spearsis to use an O'Cedar
or any type of broom that employs nylon bristles, cut them to length, mash the
ends with a set of flat pliers and trim the ends to spear points with a set of
dykes (!). They also cause less damage and will usually not impale themselves
with a misplace palm :)
