Nine years ago Mr. Kollmer and Matt asked me if I wanted to learn how
to play Ancients and would I like to go to HIstoricon with them I
said yes. One month of intensive training took place w/ Matt, Mr.
Kollmer, and Ted Fuery. I had fun playing those learning games
because eventhough there was a lot to learn I was having fun. Not so
when I found out what happens when you put HC in front of D armed MI,
but it was only practice I was playing Normans because it was a Dark
Ages theme and I planned on playing in the open with them. So after
learning a lot in the Dark Ages tournament I went on in to the Open
with no expectations and in the second round met Jevon with his
Tutes, boy did I lose big, during that game Scott came over to see
how I was doing and I told him "I was having fun" and he said to
remember that is what's important. Hey the highest I've ever
finished is Fourth at Crusades. Yes I'd like to mke it to the
National's sometime but because of lack of practice and preperation,
sometimes not knowing if I was going to a Con until the night
before. But in putting pressure on myself to get better at each
tourney when I haven't had any practice was unreasonable and playing
stopped being fun especially when it seems like I get 5-1 a lot of
the time. But enough about me I guess what I'm trying to say is that
I have been in this e-group for about two weeks and all that's been
talked about is flank marches. Are they really that important in a
tourney? I could see if your trying to re-create some historical
battle at home or as a stand a lone game. I have heard a few
antidotes where people have played a four hour tourney game and half
their command has been out on the flank putzing around, some guy did
it to me in a tourney and gave me half points. I believe the FHE is
trying to do a one time rule book where anyone can pick it up and
learn to play. Like me nine years ago the WRG book is not an easy
thing to understand if you are just getting into WRG/Warrior so I
hope they make Warrior easier to teach to new comers because I need
some people to learn around me so I can actually practice if I have
the time. And if you call my Later Hungarian's facing Later Imperial
Roman's historical come on. FHE I wish you the best.
