Oh no, John, you're fine. I am squarely in the camp of using tourneys to prep
for the NICT. While we do a couple of events a year where we get a little wild,
most of our events here line up on whatever format the NICT uses.

Just wanted to point out that that format isn't forced on the players by FHE.

Looking forward to seeing you at HCon.

Hi Jon,

This wasn't an attempt to resurrect a previously deceased equine mammal. I
actually managed to make cut for NICT and am trying to prep for differences as
well as finalize my first 25mm lead. I do apologize if you thought that was
intent. I just don't wanna drop the cash and change my mind. As an educator I
plan to have lotsa good painting time over Spring Break and in summer :-)

Time for my standard yearly caveat that this is 100% player choice and not
something we dictate. Year after year, the majority of players choose this
format for NASAMW tourneys. And no matter how often I say that the players can


choose any table size for any scale they like, this is what we come back to.

Good day of painting. 4 uninterupted hours - 15mm - 80 Polybian Roman foot
painted + 48 previously painted. All made it onto balsa - now I'll have 128
Hastati/Principes HI all ready w/ a little flocking.

Next step 32 Triari and 28 Velites and I'm almost there.

Give me 3 more hours and I'm just about there :-)

Not that I'll get it - Peter - this is my 3rd child (scary thought), but
there is chance of stopping the madness (gaming that is - love it too much)

first? With mine, I was shocked with the adjustment to a new
perception of what a large amount of sleep is. Six hours becomes
glorious. Kids are big reason I got out of gaming for quite a few
years. I used to board game with occasional miniatures quite a bit in
my youth, but lost time for most of it once I started my career and
the kids came. Now that the my career is established and the kids got
older, I found time to devote to hobbies once again, and that's when I
decided to take up Warrior.

Good luck with the little one - nothing else will bring you as much joy.

I'm just amazed that you can do 80 figs in only 4 hours. I'd need at
least 3 times that.

Lucky for me the figs were primed black and already on popsicle sticks. I spray
them black and use only a few colors - silver, red, brown, dark brown, yellow,
white, and flesh.

I set up my own little Sri Lanka sweat shop - radio on (sports radio), only 10
minutes of lunch, lots of water, and paint, paint, paint. It felt good to
paint.

This is incredible! How do you do it? With 4 hours I could just about
finish one 6 man cav unit!

Whew! Fours hours is usually 24 infantry or 12 cavalry for me.

Don't worry - they are not going to win any painting contest, but they are
servicable for the table. Being primed black I just paint near the edges of
things and not worry if I miss anything too badly. I'll post a pic of them on
yahoogroups to show them.

They will look fine for the battlefield.

If I was painting a 16 man Aztec unit then 4 hours would be about right -
maybe a little more time needed.

These figs were nicely given to me by Robert Turnbull a few years ago - it was
a huge mix of old Donnington (sp?). They are not the most detailed figs, but
with enough black lines they'll show just fine.

In four hours I can, just barely mind you...

1. Glue my entire army of 600 Chinese infantry figures on popsicle
sticks...

2. Prime

3. Paint all the shoes black...

4. Realize what a really, really terrible job I did just painting
the shoes (like, that is probably the EASIEST part, right)...

5. Pack them all up with disgust and send them off to the painters

You can see I have much to learn about the right way to go about
this, but somebody has to put the painters' children thru college!

Well Bill ... you have me beat by a mile. I tend to finish one unit
every other month, which probably goes hand in hand with playing the
same basic army for the last six years. I finally have about 3K
points of late medievals, so at least I can play a bit of a variety.

Early Byzantines ... I have been working on them for a year and only
have the heavy cavalry finished. That's ok though, because Huns looked
a little like Turkopoles and Skutatoi very often cross-dressed as
Rennaisance Italian pikemen. ;-)

Yep, I do a lot of that, too until the army is finished. Right now I'm
busily buying up 25mm Greeks on EBAY!!! Anybody got any slingers or
peltasts for sale?
