Jon,

I think you and your team should go with what interests you and they the
most at the moment. Inevitably it will be your interests that will drive the
construction of these fine ideas. Good luck in your endeavors and keep up the
smashing work.

The order of list books was determined 4 years ago....lol We could not
really have done it any other way.

For those of you that skip reading our website or the press releases,
Oriental Warrior is the next book and is mostly done - still a couple lists to
finish (more in this one than any other product) and some list rules to
playtest.
Classical work begins the moment Scott hand off OW for review.

Siege & Fleet before anything else ... because we need this in
support of the base set.

Fantasy Warrior - this is a great way to bridge to other play groups
who may not share our interest in the ancient and medieval periods,
and do not have such figures, but DO have appropriate fantasy
figures. In fact, D&D miniatures are out now that are pre-painted
plastic, which could be based appropriately without too much trouble.

then, Siege Warrior, Fleet Warrior, Campaign Warrior, SwordClash,
and finally Warrior Card Game.

I've thought a little about this, and here goes.

1. Fantasy Warrior Battles (fantasy version of WB)-- except that I
have doubts about whether Warrior Battles can simplify Warrior
without dumbing it down and I expect WB would have some teething
pains of its own.

Warrior is actually fairly simple from a rules perspective compared
with other sets of rules. The component rules are fairly simple and
fit together logically, but their tactical interactions create
tactical complexity and the satisfying need for forethought
(something other "easy" rules perhaps intentionally fail to
achieve). This depth in Warrior is something I appreciate more as I
play more. An analogy to chess has been mentioned before, and I see
a point to it. Clarify? Yes, especially charge-related issues.
Simplify without losing depth? Where?

That said, maybe a shallower approach but with more chrome fits
fantasy better -- that would certainly be feasible. However,
perhaps not to my taste -- I like my magic and monsters light, like
whipped cream on a three-scoop battle simulation sundae.

2. Campaign Warrior (campaign module for Warrior)--here's a case
where modularized rules allowing both full and dumbed down fast play
versions could usefully cohabit. I hope it includes provisions for
semi-randomized troop raising to prevent relentless detailed troop
type optimization.

3. Siege Warrior then Fleet Warrior -- I don't need these in
particular, but the battle rules need to be rounded out.

4. Warrior Card Game (each card is a unit, leader, terrain feature,
event) -- sounds cool, but card games are tricky. The heart of a
combat card game is sequence of play, and that is a warrior
strength. I'd wager two bits that this this will either be great,
frustratingly close to great, or a disaster.

5. SwordClash (skirmish game - ancient/med and fantasy) -- sounds
like something completely different. The big question -- will it
manage to use Warrior-based stands or just individually mounted
figures? It's odd how people naturally tend to stick together in
real skirmish situations (due to human psychology if not tactical
necessity) but skirmish games tend to involve individuals haring off
in their own direction.

Aloha

Mike
