I know the question ist not realy designed for this forum, but nevertheless I
would like to know whrer you get your minis for 15 mm and 28/28mm.
Essex, Foundry are the most popular, so much do I know. But if I search for
mini producing companies, there are most often no referenzes where I could see
if they have practical deliverytimes or make much fuzz about it!? or if the
minis look anything like the pictures on their homepage.
Thank's for the answers in general.
Cheers

I game in 15's, mostly have or am going to be using
Essex. They have a nice range and decent detail and
animation. I will be using the Xyston figures for my
Greco-Persian armies, those figures IMHO are awesome.
Corvus Belli make a small but nice looking range as
well.I would urge you to get a look at them and decide
yourself, everyone really has their own like and
dislikes in figure ranges so it really boils down to
what you like in a figure.

I agree with this, but reiterate my opinion that Essex cav is better than
Xyston, although some of the Xyston riders are better. I buy some of each
and mix and match riders, but try to use only Essex horses. In 25 mm,
although many other manufacturers have some nice castings here and there,
Foundry is consistently my preference. Of course aesthetics is always a
matter of opinion, so these are just mine. Others differ.
I would say the most important thing is to decide if you want to go
'small' or 'large' in whatever scale you choose and stick to castings that
are in that subcategory. You can't mix 15mm tin soldier Greeks with
Museums very well, e.g. In nominal 25mm, you'll find figures as big as 30
or as small as 20-22. Relatively speaking, the same divergence occurs in
nominal 15mm. So pick big or small within your nominal range and then
spend the time (or money) to paint well and carefully. Well painted,
based, and sized, even the poorer castings look better than nice figures
unevenly or badly done.

I agree that Essex 25/28mm horses are the most realistic and the
best of the different manufactures that I have seen.

Corvus Belli´s Iberians are the best of the market. Their early romans are very
good too (sorry, but the manager is friend of mine )
Emilio.

Foundry has already been mentioned. Perhaps I missed it, but I haven't
seen anyone menton Perry Miniatures. They have limited lines, but the
quality is so good that many other minis look sad beside them. (Perrys
do superb 1st Crusade/Islam/Turkomans, as well as Japanese (late) 100
Years War (lateish) and some other lines)
The Perry Brothers helped start the Foundry and establish its scale
ideas--so Foundry and Perry Bros minis go perfectly together. In
addition, the Perry Bros sculpted most of the Lord of the Rings range
from GW, which, in addition to making excellent LoRs figs for Fantasy
Warrior, also offer a super range of convertable, cheap, plastic
alternative horses, heads, etc. for both Foundry and Perry Bros minis.
Some armies require conversions just to exist--so its good to have
access to some plastic "bits" to speed conversion. As an example,
anybody desiring to field a Thracian army (a fine army in CW) could be
enthused by Foundry's excellent line--until they got to the Cav--just a
handful of poses. But with some Riders of Rohan and some head swops,
you end up with 6-8 horse poses and 8-10 different riders for a real
minimum of work, and now your Thracian Cav looks as good as the Foundry
Thracian foot.
Hope that makes sense.

I think Perrys have been mentioned - but I'm not sure either
anyways I really can recommend them if you are in 25/28mm. I bought
my 1st crusaders from them and a friend of mine has lot's of Samurais
from them. They are really really fine minis - of course it's always
a matter of taste but I find them hard to top.
Cheers, Michael
