				| Has anyone run or done the factoring on 1E columns of 3E for L armed
 mounted?

I've been doing some pelemenary calculations on this in order to make
smaller MC units viable...thinking of running the later Norman list
with all the retainers as IrgC MC L/sh.

Here is what I'm looking at so far:

3E MC L/sh in 1E column at a cost of 79 points per unit.

Still fights as 5@5 or 5@7 depending upon impetuosity.

 Takes from:

 reg shooting LMI:
 B 8@5 = 32 or 4
 LB 8@4 = 24 or 3
 CB 8@3 = 20 or 2

 Irg mounted:
 L 5@8 = 37 or 4
 Jls 5@7 = 30 or 3
 JLS 3@7 = 18 or 2

 Reg close order foot:
 P 8@5 = 32 or 4
 HTW 4@3 = 10 or 1
 HTW 6@3 = 15 or 1
 2HCW 4@5 = 16 or 2
 Other 4@3 = 10 or 1
 +JLS 6@4 = 18 or 2

No EL or chariot or HG factors relevant.

In the basic analysis above I find that the MC can only defeat enemy
mounted armed with JLS heads up. While it does help reduce the
impact of shooting and HTH somewhat, I just can't find a balance that
makes the extra 18 points per unit worth the trouble. For example,
the 3E MC unit takes 4 CPF fighting HC L rather than 6 CPF, yet in
both the MC deals out 5 CPF. All are tired and disordered now, but
this is no change from typical impetouos mounted lances clashing. No
 relevant difference.

However, I don't find that the 4E block 2E wide gives any advantage
over the 2E block and in fact gives lower attacking factors. 2E
gives 5@7, while the 4E gives 9@7; thus by doubling the width and
size the large unit drops a factor on the casualties table which
 translates into 6 casualties (54 and 60).

A 4E block in column 1E wide cost too much per benefit with 97 points
still loosing to any but 2E HC L straight up with even rolls.

 Anyone have thoughts on this?
