The UNRECRUITED players prefer it???
Logic gap?
Are we talking tournament or demo games? Maybe I lost the main thrust of
the thread... Like that never happened before (daily)!

LOL!!!
You need to get out more. I just pre-ordered a Board Game at a HUGE
preorder discount for $175!!! And I'm competative in one of the more
popular CCG's and spend about $1000 a year on new cards to stay competative!
Miniatures is the cheapest form of gaming out there other than RPGs.

problem with non-"mini grognards" is that, while there is some bad
blood out there about TOG, most folks have an even more negative
reaction to the cost and/or amount of work of putting together a mini
army. it takes a certain mindset to realize they are a reusable
investment and most folks just see it as an insurmountable obstacle
to getting involved in the minis hobby period. folks at minis cons
have generally already gotten around that.
even ~$300 for a pair of painted 15mm FW armies and some terrain is a
whole lotta bucks for someone mostly used to buying $20 board games or
packs of cards.
maybe if you want to go this route you should indulge in the heresy of
providing cheap-o cardboard counters.

Yeah but we are talking about initial cost to get in NOT the cost for
some grognard's monster-game (and $175 is still only about half the
cost of two dinky ready-to-go FW armies) or a year's worth of card
decks. check the internet or go to a local store and you can find
plenty of boardgames for the price I mentioned.
Most folks that haven't already bought into it just don't see the
long-term cost value of minis.
but having already made this point it really belongs somewhat
off-topic to carry it further. so have it your way.

This isn't a helpful, nor correct, p.o.v.
To use WBC again as an example (Origins would be very similar, ditto
GenCon): popular games are in the $15-$50 range, with $50 being the rarer
end. Carcassone, Princes of Florence, Puerto Rico, Medici - all the most
popular recent games are well below $50.
Yes, a few of the more hard-core (and typically historical rather than
lighter) games are upward of $100 - but even for this type, a glance at
e.g. GMT games' website will show that the norm is well sub $100.
In contrast, looking at buying a 25mm army recently was going to set me
back >$1k; that simply isn't going to happen very often, if ever.

Not even close.
Ewan, more boyd-like :)

***Chris, thanks for the kind words. Actually, I was planning on
playing in the Warrior Open on Saturday, but since I was elected Prez
of Heart of America HMGS, I had two different functions and meetings
that conflicted with the tourney. Otherwise, I would have submitted
myself to be abused by the Open crowd.
Jon, I would like to sponsor the FW tourney at Border Wars in
October. Let me know off list. Also, we can probably get some tables
for a Fantasy Warrior demo, as well as a Warrior scenario demo using
the Italian theme if you would like. I plan on taking copius
pictures and posting them to the website.
I agree that the aesthetics of most historical games need to be
improved. The worst turn-off, IMHO is a badly presented game using
kelly green felt on a raggedy army blanket.
If you need a volunteer for the NASAMW Region 4 rep, I would consider
doing it, if it doesn't pose a severe drain on my time. I actively
promote Warrior, WAB, and Ancient/Medieval Warfare, and could devote
some website space for NASAMW bizness. Let me know off list.

Jon,
While I was visiting my mother in Springfield, Jack Young and I
played quite a few Fast Warrior games at a store similar to Table Top
Games called Metagames(Lots of nice tables made specifically for
miniature gaming!). We seemed to generate quite a bit of interest as
many of the fantasy gamers seemed to gravitate to our table. I think
it would be great if we could do some kind of event down there with
FHE support. It just seems like fertile ground for recruitment.
Further, I realize that you and Scott were busy at the last Kansas
City convention, but I think it would be Awesome if one of you (Being
Official HO's yourselves) would run some kind of Fast Warrior pick up
games with the Warhammer guys in their room where they play their
tournament! That is how I got our own Jack Young started! He soundly
trounced me with my own Byzantines and we both had a blast! Now Jack
is working on a newbie who has borrowed a set of rules!!! It would
also be an opportunity to add another dealer to the FHE stables which
is perhaps the largest game store in that part of Southern Missouri.
I believe that last time that we had a 7th ed. tournament down there,
the gaming club managed to get around 10 guys to play. Imagine what a
little showmanship could produce. . . ! Just a thought for your
consideration.
Kelly
PS As the Brightsword Barrow Wights would say, "Joiiiiin USsssss!"
And "Blaaaaah,Blah, Blaaaah!" Those were fun times!

***Hey "PAL" Lay off my felt! I would support giving away nice
ground cloths for prizes next Borderwars as prizes for the next Fast
Warrior thing we do here in KC. Whaddaya think Dave?
