Must cut last post before hitting send. Must cut last post before
hitting send. Apologies to all.
FYI--I just finished converting a pile of GW Riders of Rohan to
Sarmatian Cavalry. For those not familiar with the product line, GW has
a LoRs miniatures line, many of which were designed by the Perrys.
Hence, they fit in scale with all large 25mms, especially Foundry. The
RoR horses are super--great scultping, great motion, and a welcome
alternative if the horses your other manufacturer provides have only a
couple of poses, as the 2 RoR horse can be assembled 2 different ways
for 4 poses. And they are all PLASTIC, making conversion a snap (pun
intended). In Canada they cost about $1.00 per foot or $2.00 per
mounted, and if you can pick up box sets at toy store sales, much, much
cheaper than that.
The Perrys did their RoR in a variety of historical and fantasy
gear, but I could easily see, with minor conversions, a great many Dark
Age armies using them for variety--you could make a remarkable Varangian
Guard out of some, for instance--and Visigoths, etc.
I did 100% head swaps--mostly with foundry heads from my bits box,
but also some old RAFM heads--for even more variety.
And of course, for Warrior Fantasy, they'd make great Riders of
Rohan...
Just my 2 cents,
Christian

Kelly,
In Canada, the LoTR boxed sets are available at the usual GW
premium in any GW store or online from GW. However, GW tried to market
the basic game (which came with lots of RoR) in some mainstream
retailers up here (Toys Are Us and Indigo, which is like Chapters).
They didn't sell well, and then were sold off cheap.
I've run out of the cheap ones--I didn't buy enough boxes during
the fire sale. If you hit a goldmine (like a Toys Are US that still has
a dozen boxes) please tell me.
In addition, I've found that many of the LoTR metal miniatures make
great command figures and etc. Much harder to convert, of course, and
pricey, but worth it for command stands.
Good luck,
Chris C.

Order direct from Games Workshop:
http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?do=List_Models&code=30502\n3&orignav=16&GameNav=16<http://store.us.games-workshop.com/storefront/store.us?d\no=List_Models&code=305023&orignav=16&GameNav=16>
Even better, try to pick up the LOTR game for "The Two Towers" on EBay. That
will get you 20 Riders of Rohan plus 24 Uruk-Hai, If you go that route, make
sure you are bidding on the GW game, and not the "Collectible" game or CCGs.

KP;
I have about 20 of their horse and riders I can let you have. Give
me a shout, and we can make arrangements. Be advised, they are
truer 25mm than most of the heroic 28mm figures.

David,
Your my kind of Santa! We should get together before christmas for a game
of 15mm. Btw, are you interested in doing that 15mm team thing that Charles is
putting on? It's 2,000 points of whatever army we want to do. I'm looking for a
smart partner(you!).
