I just finished a game against someone I am trying to teach the
rules to. Interesting concept in that I probably barely know them
myself, but here are a few questions that came up which I was unable
to answer. Interesting what happens when you play someone who has
never played the game before and see what questions come up.

1. We searched for about 5 minutes for a sequence of events for game
setup (choose terrain pieces, roll for first pick, setup terrain,
assign units to commands, announce scouting points, write deployment
orders/map, deploy per per rules, roll for generals, write tactical
orders, interpret orders, when to deploy bagage...) and we could not
find such a list or any reference in the rules to the sequence of
these events. Is this an oversight or something at least in need of
a clarification? Or something we just missed with 2 pairs of eyes
searching for 5 minutes?

2. Define "closest in arc" exactly (shooting priorities). How is
this measured? Closest points or farthest corners or center to
center or what? Once again, is this in need of a clarification?

3. The section on interpenetration - as written the "other
interpenetrations" clause which I presume is intended to prohibit
interpenetration during marches actually does not and in fact the
clasuse as written adds no prohibitions since "other
interpenetrations" means ones not already in the bulleted list.
Obviously (to me anyway) this is not what is intended so could we
have this language adjusted to be clearer?

Overall, I would say it went better than I expected.

On the downside from my opponent's perspective Warrior is a very
complicated game. I think the feeling was that there was a lot of
little stuff that consumed time and effort and was essentially
meaningless to the outcome. We had one (admitedly significant) hairy
3-unit versus 2-unit multi-bound combat with chariots and support
shooting and stuff that got incredibly bad - I have never fought
such a complicated single combat in any game I can remember. But it
was a lot of work going thru all the factors involved for and
against each unit.

However, he actually likes a lot of stuff about it - the morale
effects and orders system in particular. I guess I never thought
that much of the orders system so I was to glad to hear another
relative neophyte (yes, I still consider myself one) with a
different take on it. And I think he came away impressed with the
stuff I like too - the tactical feel of declaring and executing
charges and charge responses, the fact that troops who shoot, well,
they shoot.

So on the balance he left wanting to schedule another game after he
works on his army list. We agreed things would get better for him
after he got used to some of the math and the combat results became
more predictable for him for the troop types in his army. But best
of all I have at least the hope of another player, who is a very
active ancients player, relatively local to myself to play against.

3.1, page 17.

Closest points.

6.52 says:

"All other interpenetrations are illegal and cannot be performed. This
includes interpenetrations during marches and
interpenetration of friendly bodies in ambush (14.42) that are not yet
placed on the table."
