The wheel at the start of a charge is not the only area where I have
found the wheeling rules are a bit unclear to me.
Do I have the following correct?
Wheeling in approaches - the rules say you are only allowed one
wheel during an approach, and this must be 45 degrees or less.
Unlike charges which require the wheel to be at the start, in an
approach this wheel can occur at any _single_ point during the move.
So, to use ASCII-vision, if you have a situation something like
this, where unit C has just enough room for an initial wheel to aim
for the A-B gap...
AAAAAAAA.....BBBBBBBB
AAAAAAAA.....BBBBBBBB
.....................
...CCCC..............
...CCCC..............
If unit C wants to approach and fill the gap between friendly units
A and B, once it completes the wheel which aims it for the gap it
must then move straight - it may not wheel again later in the
approach move to line back up with its friends, even if it has the
movement distance to do so. And in fact, if when it aims for the gap
its aspect is such that it does not fit into the space anymore then
it can not even fill the gap in any direction.
Sound about right?
Or are you okay as long as the total amount wheeled is less than 45
degrees, distributed over several points (and possibly even
combining different directions) in the approach move?
In other words, does the "one wheel" refer to the instance of
wheeling or the number of degrees total wheeled?

Just one wheel, John, no matter where it occurs. It can be a max of 45 degrees.
