I have some cash in my hot little hand. I've been saddened by the incredible
weakness of hoplite armies (that actually contain hoplites), and the byzantines
just won't fight well at 1200pt. I don't want El, I don't want SHK, and I don't
want chariots. So in casting around I once again find myself eying the later
Samurai army. Skirmishing LHI look good, but everyone is sheildless so I have
to get into HTH or get tired fast. The weakness is ashigaru who are
non-skirmishing LMI and thus taking it on the chin at +5 against shooting bows.
Obviously I want a table frull of brush to avoid vs mounted wavers, and I
certainly want a limited number of shieldless HC. How do the experts feel about
running such a force? Can't it maintain itself long enough to succeed?

Next a question for Scott (list ho): Will the final lists look like an
expantion of the FW list? Will there be Iko-ikki options? sohei? EHI upgrades
for samurai? LC option for mounted in the early period since they fought mainly
as skirmishing bowmen? How about skirmishers of any ilk? Don't know if they're
actually historical. Big question is the ratio; I want to order the troops, but
I need to know if there is a ratio of ashigaru to samurai, or can I just buy a
limited number of ashigaru and get the rest as samurai. Minimums/maximums? I
know the list isn't out yet, but I thought I'd ask; I'm hoping that whatever you
say, I won't have to rebase anything once the list comes out.
Thanks
Wanax

Lord of the Meadehall of men! Aknowledged professional sack lounger. Creator

thought and deed. He who would produce but for 7 years of inactivity punctuated
by frenzied finger touching. Smooth.

>I do not know the answers to any of these questions. I have 2 list books with
some heavy issues between now and Japanese. Will be using the work(s) of the
late Mike McGinnis, some of which appeared in Spearpoint, as the basis for at
least one Japanese list. Beyond that, I can't answer anything at this time.
Sorry.
