Too true! I think, on balance that Warrior has so many of the aspects I enjoy
in wargaming (disobedient generals, troop fatigue, troop-grading) that,
despite the fact I haven't even found an opponent yet, the positives far
outweigh
the negatives, and I am more than happy to see them in print. Roll on Imperial
Warrior!

I, for one Greg, have no problem with anyone voicing an opinion over
potential future decisions in order to influence them based on that person's
knowledge
and experience. My read of Mike's post is a sentiment I share - what can
continued negative comments about a decision made long ago hope to accomplish
except turning off our newer members and frustrating the older ones?

As someone who has helped the FH in a couple ways and followed all of
this since early 2000 I have noted the vocal minority.

The people who usually start their e-mails, "You guys are great, next
best thing since sliced bread, BUT......" and then go on to tell the
FH how they screwed this up, or got this wrong, or generally aren't
doing what that individual wants done on a specific list and/or rule.

Following all of these e-mails for over 3 years it is the same old 5
or 6 people, and for a couple of them, at the best of times they are
only sarcastic but at the worst they are very negative remarks.

Having noted that this style of commenting is the norm on other
Ancients groups, that use the same basing system, maybe those
individuals would be better served playing that game vice Warrior,
their comments would certainly be the norm rather than the minority.
Warrior at present contains over 300 members, but week to week (for 3
years) the same individuals come on and make backhanded comments and
criticize a rule or list item.

What is the purpose of most of these comments? FHE have already made
a decision, they are not changing the rule, the list.... or the fact
that Moogs have shields. IF the decision has already been made,
these comments are only meant to HURT Warrior, not help Warrior. Is
that what these individuals are all about?

These people are the MINORITY, unfortunately they are very vocal.
There are people joining the group every week, many new players, who
in some cases have switched to Warrior because their old system was
wracked with negative comments and attitudes.

To new people and old joing the group, Welcome, I believe the
Majority are very happy with what FHE has done, and I say that
without having to add several cents of sarcasm or negativity,

VR,
Mike Turner

**Mike, You're a decent person and I have to say that the people you speak of
are decent people as well. They are concerned about where the Warrior rules are
going. Why not just come out and name the people who you are talking about and
as Travis did at the Alamo, draw a line in the sand? If it is the folks that I
am familiar with, they are all strong advocates of this set of rules and most
have been involved in it in all of it's incarnations all the way back when it
was called 7th edition WRG. Most comments from these advocates are expressing
IMHO the Silent Majority of Warrior gamers in contrast to your minority opinion.

FHE have already made
a decision, they are not changing the rule, the list.... or the fact
that Moogs have shields. IF the decision has already been made,
these comments are only meant to HURT Warrior, not help Warrior. Is
that what these individuals are all about?

**Well, It really is about history and games and opinions. It seems to me that
historians change their opinions every 10 or so years and debate never seems to
cease on the historiocity of every event or supposed fact. This is a forum that
discusses a historical rules system and it would be unhealthy to say someone is
hurting a game just because they disagree with the Company's interpretation.
Phil Barker even allowed for wiggle room for players who made a genuine attempt
to research their own lists. As has our own Scott Holder in the not so distant
past. I say... the people that are shouting down the folks who disagree are the
ones who hurt the system and by their supposed indignant righteousness, actually
drive potential supporters and advocates away. Wishing to close open discussion
on topics concerning Warrior or history somehow smacks of censorship and to me
somehow is un-American and very undemocratic. Don't get me wrong, FHE is not a
democracy nor should it be. But, this is the
forum where concerned advocates state their opinions based on the game. And I
for one as do all of the people I know, applaud the FHE for their exhaustive
efforts but this in no way means that everyone will always agree with every
decision no matter how much cheerleading is expoused on this forum.

FWIW,

Kelly Wilkinson

Wonderfully said. I agree completely.

The individuals should learn "A quiet man is heared more often than
the man who comments on every subject"

I think this subject rears its head now and again. I would not worry too
much. Free speech and all that. The last email i think summed it up, it is hard
to
determine whether it is merely active debate which i enjoy or actual abuse.
Either way it is no problem to me.

I have not noticed any comment re "TIME COMMANDERS" a tv BBC2 in the uk. It
is certainly making wargaming more mainstream even though i think they could
have used miniatures for the final "and this is how the battle went in
reality".

Changing the subject a little. I am a seleucid player and have been for 26
years. I do hope i dont lose my camel brigade when the new lists are written. I
have grown quite attached.

I have the book by Barkova, the seleucid army varied immensly as did the
various rebellious factions that i hope the list will include.

Eric,
Real "quite men" are usually asleep, perhaps these "quite men" should think
about also joining Yahoo's sleep walking group.
One man's S & N comments just might be another man's lively conversation.
I know e-mail is a poor way to speak to someone, you can't see the smile on
his face or the twinkle in his eye to know if he is putting you on or not.
I also don't think one man should question another man's sincerity if he
does not know him.
I hope this did not offend, it's just one man's opinion.

Because I lack tact, I just want everyone to know that this is your eye
poke warning (seriously),

How is digging up a dead horse to beat it again (IE why does this unit
have shields and this one doesn”Ēt?) carrying on a ”Čmeaningful
discussionӃ??

If it”Ēs the same discussion that”Ēs been carried on for years
(apparently), and during the course of this ”Čmeaningful”É
discussion
the point of contention has been fixed, changed, discovered to have been
wrong (or right) or solved to the satisfaction of the owners of the
game, what”Ēs the point in carrying on?
Jon and Scott and the rest of the fellows doing the list work and play
testing have done their research, fixed what they thought was broken
(and as owners of the system are allowed to do so), and made the changes
they felt necessary.

Are some of the changes bad for some of the players?
Yes.
Are some of the good for some of the players?
Yes.
Have these changes irrevocably broken the Warrior Game system?
Depends on who you listen to I suppose.

As I see it, and my view may be skewed, if you have a problem with any
of the changes the guys at FHE have made, don”Ēt just sit and whine
about it.
Do some thorough research (Google can and will be your friend!), present
it in a thoughtful, intelligent manner, prove them wrong, and they will
change it.

Otherwise, let the dead horse beӀ

My two cents worth of ranting is done, you may remove your glasses now

I agree, if reputable research can be found then an option for said shields
or other such equipment or armour should be added to any troop type. Otherwise
debate all you like but i doubt lists should be altered.

As a seleucid general for 25 years i would be more than happy to check out
the proposed seleucid list before print. I have numerous sources of research at
my disposal.

The key here, Todd, is that people like Greg Regets and anyone else for that
matter should have a right to their opinion. Yes, there are thin skinned people
on this page and yes there are sycophants. But the point is, one should be
allowed to voice an opinion. I personally dislike moogs as they in their
irregular state can crush Roman Legionaires and pikes from a frontal charge on
an even die roll. This is insane! I just recently read a slingshot article that
stated that moogs were masters at defeating mounted knights. I doubt that they
could easily defeat Swiss, Romans, or for that matter Phalangites. But look at
the charts. I'm merely stating my opinion and that is all it is. To be honest, I
can't wait to see what Scott will do to lesson the murderous effect of similarly
armed Celt-Iberians. This was a Huckleberry and Clark abortion that needs to go
away. . . In my opinion of course.
Once again, if you are suggesting that we tow the party line and
continually suck up by never disagreeing with rules evaluations, then sir you
will never understand Americans! We are the single most opinionated bunch that I
know of. And Americans have died to allow us this freedom, so why try to censor?

kw
PS I used to watch lots of the three stooges and have a classic "Curly" Defense
against eye-poking! lol ;)
