Jeff, we had a crew looking at doing Platea in Warrior this year, but it fell
through. I will look into interest in trying again next year.

Howdy,

Interesting thing is that so far all the responses sent to me have been in the
variety of "Great Idea," but no one has really followed up on the main part of
my email, which was to see if anyone was willing to do the work to set it up for
the society Sad Sigh, more work for me.

Actually, I try to swing support to Phil Viverito, who does a great job of
promoting the scenario driven side of the hobby, and his Hack series as much as
I can. I agree that more could be done in this regard. In the proposed bylaws
neither the ChUmp nor VP have any real duties, so I could easily see Event's
Director (as outlined by Bob) falling under either's domain (depending on
interest, temperament and time availability).

Since Friday at CW and Thursday (and even Friday) at Hcon tend not to fill the
Lampeter room the front part (where the DBM events were this time) could easily
be designated the Scenario Zone and we might try to get some of these other
systems going there. Of course this requires interest on the part of people who
play those games wanting to run such events. Can lead a horse to ..., well, you
know.

So first order of business. Anyone want to handle the job of Event's Director?

Second order of business. Who knows people who play the following systems who
might be interested in running demo/scenario games?
Warmaster Ancients
Vis Bellicus
Hoplon
Ancient Empires
WAB

Third order of business. Are there any people in our various systems who would
to take part of a day to run a commonly agreed upon major battle?

Obviously we don't have to do any of these things if we don't have members who
are interested in them (i.e. in helping make them happen), but we could put this
out in Spearpoint and see if there are any nibbles.

Now, Bob, when are you going to get me the DBA results from Hcon (not to metnion
CW) :-)

At last, a practical suggest to help the members. I would love to use
PayPal for dues! Make it easy to pay now and the board can decide
later what we are getting for the money :)

Another short note, on the role of the Chief Umpire. May I suggest
that as the number of rules for ancient and medieval games is
increasing, one role for the CHUMP is to recruit people to run these
games at the cons. It appears that Warmaster Ancients is not now under
the purview of the Society, nor WAB. Where is Vis Bellicus, Hoplon,
Ancient Empires, and the others? Tournament Director, by the way, does
not seem an appropriate name to me as it implies that the Society is
only interested in tournaments. What is needed is an Events Director
which can include tournaments, demonstrations, and scenario games.
Perhaps some of the new systems are not really good for tournaments but
would make great scenario games. Could not the Society sponsor some of
the games in the lobby to show off our side of the hobby. Big games
with Big signs -- Sponsored by the North American Society of Ancient
and Medieval Wargamers.

By the way, there is this new Magnesia game project, is the society
involved with that. Also, the Society of Ancients has the very
interesting Day of Battle project where they have the same battle done
with a variety of games. This year the battle was Sambre. I did a
giant DBA game Thursday night before Cold Wars started. Why not get a
number of such games going next year. Why not come up with some idea
of our own? Battle of the year, played at all the regional cons and
reports in the printed or virtual Spearpoint.

or is NASAMW really just a Tournament running group - North American
Society of Ancient and Medieval Tournament Gamers?
