It strikes me that the need for scoring systems in tournaments are
based on the need to keep everybody playing. If the tournament is an
elimination tournament the problem goes away.

Of course that leaves some people out in the cold.

However, I can't help but think back to Fleet Captain/Patrol/Sunday
Patrol model from SFB. If you have another tournament running in
parallel you can run an elimination tourney for the main event, and
those who are out can continue to play in the other tourneys.

It also solves something I have long seen as a shortcoming of the
everybody plays every round model. Once you've lost a game, the odds
of you winning the tourney are slim. Not impossible I'll confess, as
I've done it, but slim. But two losses and you're done.

But you have to stick around for round three because the tournament
needs your warm body to work. While I've never been in that situation,
I can't think its all that much fun. But that could be just me, being
a fairly reward motivated :)

Now a problem with elimination tourneys is that the number of rounds
given the time to play a game. This can be solved by putting a cap on
attendance to the big show, or breaking the players out into pools.

Just a thought

Have fun!
Cole
