Mark,
Check your Bar-kochva book. Doesn't it mention interesting detachments to
the elephants in the march on Beth-Zacharia? Check it out and tell me what you
come up with.

Yes, and there are reports that during the civil war Caesar kept his
elephants and horses together so as to aleviate the fear factor in battle.
Still, the marians do not have the option to proof their cav either.
