Oh no, no toes were stepped on. Nothing like that.

We feel that Irregular D best simulates the training, morale and combat
capability of the late Seleucid elephant.

I just got my copy of "classical Warrior". Thanks for the fast
shippping Jacob! As I've been home sick all this week this came
just in time in that it gave me something new to read.

Anyway, I have been going over armies I own and/or am interested in
building so obviously I was very interested in what was done to the
Seleucid list. While I was quite happy with the increased number
of "irr A" Galatian warriors now in the list, I was horrified to see
that the late era elephants were changed to "D" class.

Now this does not "gimp" the list by any stretch of the imagination,
it does make this troop type far less attractive.

I realise that the list writers don't always address their reasoning
behind decsions on this group, but this does not change the fact
that I'm very curious why this was done.

Who will still play his Seleucids, but will probably no longer
include elephants in the late period....

Heh....
Well you know what I meant. By "done" I mean that it differed in
several interesting ways than previous Seleucid lists produced for
TOG. I'm not saying that the list or the thinking behind it was wrong
(god knows, I'm no expert by any means) but I'm curious what the
rational behind it was.

Sorry if I stepped on any toes by impling that something was "done" to
the list. ;-)

I'll defer to your research on this point as you guys did the
research, wrote the list, and I'm a nobody with only a limited bit
of knowledge on this period. However in the limited reading I have
done I had always understood that Seleucid elephants
were superior to their Ptolemaic counterparts, who are still classed
as "c" class. That, (along with the fact that this will severely
limit the effectiveness of a major troop type in my favorite army
;->) just made me wonder about it.

Oh well, so it goes. I will just have to learn to be more careful
in employing my elephants now!

C'mon Jon,

You know that Martin is more than likely referring to the WRG lists that
FHE owns now b/c you guys bought them from Phil and his bud. Much of the list
has changed and I might say that most of it for the better. I myself am
perplexed at the low morale for the elephant forces in the Seleucid list as they
performed very exemplary in the Jewish rebellion in the late stages of the
Seleucid Kingdom. Having read Bar Kochva there seems to be no indication for
such a status. Also, I will point out that the Elephant corp was part of the
standing army and training was based in the city of Appamea where most training
was conducted.
You know, I was thinking. . . is there a list group where posts were made
concerning the creation of the lists? If so, why not post the website and tell
everyone that if they want to know the answers to "WHY," they can go look there
and that way you won't have to be bothered by so many list questions. Just a
suggestion. . .
