I have been looking at the nuances of the shooting arc's rules and wish a
clarification.
This is the situation, each 4 letters represent 1 element
aaaa
aaaa

bbbb
bbbbcccc
cccc

Units a,b, and c all have missiles and are in range.
Can unit c shoot at unit a because of the phantom element rule or is it
not allowed because it would count as shooting overhead unit b, which is not
allowed.

Does the answer change if unit a lines up perfectly with unit b
aaaa
aaaa

bbbb
bbbbcccc
cccc

Thanks
Phil

Phil

IF I understand the diagram correctly...

1. This has nothing to do with prolonging the front as none of that is going
on here. I am treating this as purely a shooting arc question.

2. In the first diagram it appears a is out of the arc of the leftmost
element of c.

3. In the second diagram, a appears to be in the arc of the leftmost element
of c, but (and it is hard to tell) b may be blocking the line of sight to a
(rule 12.4).

Jon,
Thanks for your response.
If the second diagram has unit 'b' blocking LOS between units 'a' and 'c' then
certainly it is blocking it in the first diagram as well.
Which answers my question?

Phil

True. But in diagram 1, a isn't in c's arc in the first place, let alone in
LOS.
