To All

Size does matter so says the short guy who was from Corsica who stood
around with his hand in his coat scratching his belly. ("God favors the bigger
battalions")

I was watching a BBC "Meet the ancestors" last night, with a Saxon
warrior buried with his horse. The horse was said to be at the top
end of the size scale for cavalry horses of the period 14.4 hands.
Also saw a programme on "Horse whisperers" from the USA training
mongol horses, when they ride them the riders feet nearly touch the
ground.

This is not reflected in the rules....comments please.

PS In my first game on saturday, I missed seeing my cavalry wedges,
they just look better in wedge.

I think if you truely did take horse size into account, you would seriously
disadvantage players with an interest in earlier periods. Some cavalry
enthusiasts would say that size is the only thing that matters. Lets face it, an
unarmed and unarmoured Knight on his destrier could simply bowl over alot of
early cavalry, but then the game would be no fun for anyone. At least you would
have to stricktly divide the game into periods.

I had thought this was part of the difference between the various
troop types for mounted was the horse size and tightness of formation
they kept as well as just the armor worn by man and horse.

N'est ce pas? (just look at the hillbilly try to be cultured... dang
I hope I spelled that right!)

And I believe that unless various measures are taken a knight
typically _does_ bowl over earlier cavalry if it is inattentive
enough to be sitting there and can't get away.

However, those measures, the troop cost, the one-shot nature of
mounted which most people perceive (especially impetuous mounted),
and that escape ability (generally except SHC/EHC) are just enough to
give the game an edge to it even ridiculously out of period.

Allan,
In my research of the Sassanian Persian Army, I read something about
Persian horses being larger than the cavalry of there vassal horse tribe. It
stated that the larger horses over heated and tired much more quickly than the
smaller sturdy steppe ponies. So in reality size sometimes is a detriment.
