"This is arranged to enclose any shaped area desired"
Any. Pinched is a subset of any.

Jon, nitpick question about 'strings' here . I really am not sure y
someone would want a smaller sized open space, but...
The rule for 'open spaces' doesn't say that the circum. of the string is 'up
to' 2,480 p. - just 2,480 p. It does say however, the string can be placed
into any shape desired. BUT...it doesn't say the area can cover a smallerr
area than a 2.480 circum string provides. My questions are:
1. Can the string have a smaller circum that 2,480?
2. If it must be 2,480, can the string be shaped so that it covers a smaller
area.

Think about how you can lay the string down, Kurt. The key word is
"circumference", nothing else. It can be a square, circle, squashed amoeba,
tesseract, Mobius strip, VERY long rectangle, "Q", you name it.

So I could for instance double -up the string and lay it on the table that
way? I could for 'pinch' part of it, making the circum smaller?
