Hi All,

** The whole thread about this has gotten shrill and really is
unnecessary. Warrior is owned by a group of gentlemen that want to
temper game balance with history. And as far as I'm concerned they
are one of two Ancient/medieval rules sets that do this. For all our
disagreements, Jon Cleaves is the most responsive rules arbiter that
we could ever hope for. Hell guys, he monitors this page almost
constantly. That is not to say that I always agree with him. But in
this instance, I don't feel that the majority of the list rules as
they have been presented are that unbalancing. Having said this, one
could wonder that units being given free weaponry should actually
pay for them. For instance, Late Roman Legionaires are some of the
best equipped in the game and they pay for every weapon the list
writer chooses to take while their grandparents get a freebie 1hcw.
Some may say this is free points while others may argue that it is
to make the Marian/EIR/Severan Romans more competative for their
historical opponents. When I think about the overwhelming strength
of the Roman military machine, I think about the numerous defeats
they had at the hands of inferior armies. I think of their
superiority of numbers as a Roman advantage and the fact that they
had multiple professional armies in the field at the same time
(allowing them to lose horribly and keep coming back until they got
it right!), something that most countries couldn't maintain
especially during times of harvest. When one looks at a country's
cost in tech to create-say armor- and I look at the Romans, I see
every legionaire in the Marian/EIR/Severan lists as HI, which leads
me to conclude that armor is actually easy for them to produce.
Definitely easier than some crap kingdom like Commagene. So the
question becomes, "why can't armor be cheaper for the Romans?" Now
be prepared for a sudden stop! I'm sure that Jon,Scott,Bill, and
Jake have taken much of this into consideration and more. To do this
sort of thing would take an enormous amount of time and money to to
get right. As it is, Jon is overhauling the rules manual, working on
Campaign Warrior,Siege Warrior as well as other projects in addition
to raising a family and working. . . To perform such a project would
certainly mean that lists would have to be re-written and then you
would have dogs and cats living together happily and end of the
world type stuff! Smile Do we really need all that? Smile "Well, it would
be nice if Dogs and Cats could learn to live with each other but
that is beside the point!" To me, OW kicks butt better than any
Hutchby and Clark list ever did. For people to complain mystifies
even me. Heck, I'm not thrilled with how the Burmese turned out(I'm
only 98% happy which ain't bad!), but there are so many other
choices out there in OW, that I can play a different list and still
be happy. That's one of the cool things about Warrior, it gives
gamers lots of choices. That one of the reasons I love this game.

PS Jon, if it were pistols, I'd fire mine in the air.
