First, to Eric, I appreciate your explanation and it was useful. But let's
leave further discussion of NASAMW and IWF to the other forums where it is more
appropriately discussed.

Now, for our playership:

FHE wants there to eventually be a Warrior World Championship. It MIGHT be that
the way to go is through the International Wargame Federation. It also might
NOT be the way to go. I don't know yet.

I am going to work with the IWF about this subject over the summer. If we at
FHE feel they are the right venue, then we'll work something out with them.

I don't know what relationship WRG and other ancients companies have with the
IWF, but we certainly are not going to be told by some outside organization
where/when/how our World Championship is going to be held.

Alone in all wargaming, some miniatures games, and high among them
ancient/medievals, have their big tourneys sanctioned by an organization other
than the game company. Sure, chess has the ICF, but then chess isn't owned by
anyone....

The question to our players is - specifically to those who care about such
things, and/or those that know something about the IWF - what are your thoughts
and preferences with respect to a 'world championship'?

I'll save your responses and have them with me whenever i am talking to someone
about the future of Warrior worlds...

Thanks
Jon

That isn't entirely true, Jeff. It all depends on how protective a company
wants to be concerning its intellectual property.
But the last thing we want is some 'fight' over Worlds. I am quite sure we
can work something out that satisfies all.

I propose Jon that the FHE disregard IWF in the near term and develop
said tournament through NASAMW and the Australian counterpart
indepentantly. Begin with a championship for each country, then move
on to world champ as invitational of current and past champions
only. I just don't see how a layer of beuocracy offered by IWF will
translate for Warrior. If FHE can successfully develop the
championship, then consider merging on favorable terms from a
position of strength.
It is possible that it will work out that way. We'll remain open-minded
about how to go about it. For any future that I can see, the US championships
will be held through NASAMW and any world championship will only be held with
our
sanction and through a means that best supports our player base.

I would love to see a world championship, but my concern is also
supporting an organization that can support me. IMO NASAMW can do
this for Warrior, as it has, far more than an organization that is
virtually dedicated to DBM.

Just an opinion

Here is my two quatloos on NASAMW Jon. First, we as Warrior gamers
need to write some freaken articles. I've just written one last week
and sent it to Spearpoint, and I will continue to do this. It is key
that we talk the talk as well as game the game. Member enthusiasm is
transferable, and the Spearpoint is an excellent forum for that.
Half the discussions I see here would be very excellent articles in
Spearpoint, and there they would reach an audience that would never
come here.

If Warrior gamers were more active within the society, then the
society would better reflect Warrior. I will do my part, but I'm one
voice. Many DBM gamers are bored or dissatisfied, yet Warrior gamers
are almost all happy with our rules. Let us convey this satisfaction
to "perspective" Warrior gamers through the Spearpoint.

Howdy,

Hold more events too. While DBM players may be bored they hold a lot of
events. I do my best to list ALL North American events on the NASAMW site
(one reason I joined this forum was to cull more Warrior stuff). Since July
I've been able to list 83 events, of which 59 are DBM and 14 are Warrior.

And I would totally agree. This is one of the four pillars of our plan for
the next few years. DBM has a ten year head start and Warrior serves a more
selective player base, but we certainly can increase regional play. San Ramon
was an excellent case for the effect a small amount of emphasis can have on
reaching into cons/areas tradtionally non-Warrior. We will keep at this and are
always looking for suggestions from players on how to increase Warrior play
regionally.

I am not sure, but i am doing my bit, my group is growing and i hope to host
the 2004 UK title should the FHE allow, i have not seen anyone else expressing
an interest in doing so.

I think i have had the nod from the FHE on this?

When i move house in a few months i will have a very large room with two FULL
size tables in set up permanently, so will be able to organise inter club
competitions should anyone show an interest.

For larger events i should have access to large halls within clubs.

I would like to hear from other uk groups though.

I am working on a set of standards for what we will sanction as other countries
Warrior National Championships. For sure there will be a minimum participation
level and that it will have to be at a major con or other public event.

So, while you do seem to be the only guy interested here, Mark, in running a UK
National Championship, for it to be sanctioned by us, it will still have to be
more than a couple guys in a basement somewhere.

If you'd like, please send me your proposed plan offline.

Jon

Mark

Suggestion that you contact Phil Barker
Re The comment on the Society of Ancients website
quote
Warrior - This ruleset is based on the WRG 7th Edition set of rules
that was popular in the late 80's and early 90's. Recently updated,
they are used for competitions in the U.S.A.

USA what about the rest of the world !!!!!

I know Americans think that the world IS America
but.......................... Very Happy couldn't resist (only jesting)
