Jon in the white book 9.3 it indicates that only foot gets the + after first contact. The black eratta says any figure armed only with JLS always uses the +. My question, is this a change in the black book or have I missed this for sometime? |

The errata is correct and yes, it is different than the white book and original printing of the black book. _________________ Roll Up and Win! |

Woah! Okay does this now mean that mounted troops armed with JLS, B may use the JLS bonus like their foot counterparts?
Thanks,
Kelly |

No. This does not apply to double-armed cav. If you have just JLS, it applies. Anything else combined with JLS, nope. _________________ These Rules Suck, Let's Paint! |

Thanks Scott,
My Macedonian cav that are working for my Marian Romans thank FHE for this boone and for the Macedonian cav rules as well. Are you going to be able to make it out for Spring Recruits this weekend? It's been an awfully long time since we've have the pleasure of your company.

I assumed that the eratta was correct, I just wanted to make sure I hadn't been misplaying this for some time. A design question if I may, is the + ment to show the advantage of a short spear as opposed to just a sabre when used by cav? |

The + in general is to show the use of the javelin as a weapon thrown over very short range combined with its use as a short spear. _________________ Roll Up and Win! |

Wait a minute.
Quick question.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9.3 (page 83): A figure armed only with JLS always receives the JLS +.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
According to Scott:
"Woah! Okay does this now mean that mounted troops armed with JLS, B may use the JLS bonus like their foot counterparts?"
- No. This does not apply to double-armed cav. If you have just JLS, it applies. Anything else combined with JLS, nope.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So you can only use the JLS bonus in this condition (foot or mounted) if you have no other weapon at all, including missile weapons?
Thanks,
Noel. |

The errata does not change any of the other conditions for JLS +.

Perhaps I have to rephrase my question.
Your answer leaves me hanging.
I'll make it yes or No.
1) any figure with JLS and any other weapon (inluding missile wps) doesn't get the bonus in subsequent bounds -- including, say, roman Auxilia with JLS, D Sh. or HC JLS, B Sh. (I am assuming they are not fighting elephants, not pursuing, etc...)
I'm asking because this isn't the way we have played it. We have allowed troops with JLS and any missile weapon to get the bonus. Perhaps that's a carry-over from previous rules. I'll pass it on up here if this is incorrect.
(he he, the later roman player will be cranky)
Noel. |

See my answer above. JLS-armed foot hasn't changed.
